Origin

I think Basculegion is based on an Arapaima. Berjim (talk) 00:07, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Considering we know it's typing, it's probably safe to create a game data section and just put the type chart there.

Also weird that the egg group is the only thing not labeled unknown lol i guess basculin's egg group is water 2 but by that logic it'd also be safe to list the gender ratio. Deezpocketmonsters (talk) 03:04, 22 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Artwork

I made an account just for this purpose. Can someone please correct the artwork transparency because it is driving me insane. There is a little gap in Basculegion's mouth that is meant to be transparent but it is left untransparent. You can clearly see in the trailer it only has 4 teeth and this gap is just the back side of its cheek but it is left white here as if it's another tooth. Also it has another untransparent bit between its fin and its body. Thank u - Qyzxf (talk) 12:17, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Also another bit between its beard and right fin. I can't do it myself because i dont have an art program with transparency Pallukun (talk) 19:02, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
i've done it myself. Now for someone to overwrite the file since I cannot. (link to edit) - Qyzxf (talk) 15:20, 8 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
The redone version shrank the resolution significantly. I've uploaded a new version with the transparency added at the original res. —Legoless (talk) 08:16, 10 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for pestering but you missed the gap between its beard and right fin Pallukun (talk) 09:26, 10 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Evolution requirements based on gender?

The recoil damage required from evolving is from using Wave Crash enough times, but like Stantler to Wyrdeer, the move needs to be mastered and used enough times in a style (whether its Strong or Agile style is dependent on gender) to evolve. If the Basculin is Male, Wave Crash needs to be used 10 (or 20) times in Strong Style, while Female Basculin require the use of Agile Style Wave Crash. - totally signed comment from Kirbychu Showdown (talkcontribs) 19:49, 3 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Version "Exclusivity" in Scarlet & Violet

A while back I noticed that in my Violet game my raid battles against Basculegion in Kitakami were only against female Basculegion. I looked up on Serebii and it seems that raid battles against males are only available in Scarlet and raids against females are only available in Violet. I think this is information that should be put on this page, but I don't know how to add this information to the game locations section. I am not experienced with editing infoboxes and don't know how to split the Hidden Treasures section into one for Scarlet and one for Violet like Indeedee has for the expansion pass for Sword and Shield. Can anyone do this or teach me how to do it? Lentilpedes (talk) 03:29, 11 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

I made the fix for this. Thanks for the heads up! -- Apopheniac (talk) 13:29, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
No problem! Lentilpedes (talk) 20:25, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Origin: Shachihoko

I made an account just for this, I believe it's worth adding that Basculegion may be based on the Shachihoko. The description of the creature is very similar to Basculegion (here's another example):

"They have the body of a large fish and the head of a tiger. Their broad fins and tails always point towards the heavens, and their dorsal fins have numerous sharp spikes."

Basculegion's face structure, its spike-like dorsal fins. I believe these may be inspired directly by the Shachi.

Basculegion being a Hisuian Pokémon is also appropriare considering the following line:

"Shachihoko live in colder, norther oceans."

Hisui/Sinnoh are based on Hokkaido, which is the northernmost island of Japan.

The gender differences of Basculegion (aside from being references to Unovan Basculin), may also be directly referencing this:

"Shachi usually come in male and female pairs and the creatures have a fearsome tiger-like head and a carp-like fish body."

To me, it feels very unlikely for Basculegion to be based on a Shachihoko (aka Shachi) given that none of the more important elements are present.
Arguably, their most crucial trait is the curved body with its tail above its head, a detail clearly not present in Basculegion's design. Basculegion also has nothing that may be considered dragon-like or tiger-like. There are also no mentions of the Shachihoko's protective powers against fires or rain control. Lastly, it also has no clear reference to the Golden Shachi, which is one of the most culturally important types of Shachihoko (unless you think only the female Basculegion's shiny references it for some reason).
As to the points you bring up: lesser details like a squarish face and spikey fins were already present on Basculin, and it's only natural for them to remain in Basculegion. I'm not sure which legend you're quoting when mentioning that they "live in colder, norther oceans" (I'm assuming it might be in the Wakan Sansai Zue, but I couldn't find a translated scan of it); but it's interesting to notice that 鯱 shachi is also utilized to refer to orca whales, which are significantly more abundant in colder waters. Assuming this is case for such description, I think it's reasonable to assume "colder, norther oceans" can easily refer to waters even closer to the Arctic, beyond Japan.
The only point that I find remarkable is the fact that they come in gendered pairs, as the addition of gendered forms for Basculegion is an interesting decision. However, I don't think this is enough to make me believe that Basculegion is based on Shachihoko when considering the lack of certain key elements.
