Special Seven
Special Seven (Japanese: ポケモンページワン Pokémon Page One) is a variant of one-card (Japanese: ページワン page one). This is a shedding-type card game in Pokémon Zany Cards.
Game modes
Vs. CPU
In the Vs. CPU (Japanese: キャラクター バトル Character Battle) mode, there is a competition between the single player and two non-player characters.
In this mode, each stage (Japanese: ステージ stage) features three players competing against each other: one human player and two non-player characters.
- Stage 1: Jessie and James
- Stage 2: Casey and Duplica
- Stage 3: Koga and Sabrina
- Stage 4: Gary and Ritchie*
- Stage 5: Giovanni and Mewtwo
In each stage, there are two games against the same characters: Round 1 (Japanese: だい1せん Round 1) and Round 2 (Japanese: だい2せん Round 2).
At the end of each round, the participants are ranked by the coins earned during the round. There is also an additional ranking at the end of each stage, with the total coins earned in both rounds. The player must win 1st place in the current stage to proceed to the next stage.
Multiplayer
In the Multiplayer (Japanese: パーティ プレイ Party Play) mode, there is a competition between up to 5 Pokémon mini devices connected via infrared. It is possible to play up to 5 stages in this mode, with all players ranked at the end of each stage.
One player is the dealer. During each player's turn, the dealer and the current player must point their Pokémon mini devices to each other when prompted by the game devices.
Gameplay
This game is played with a standard 52-card deck. The object of this game is to get rid of one's own cards[1] and earn coins (Japanese: コバン koban),[2] also known as points.
Starting the game
At the start of the game, each player has five cards. The central pile starts with a single card.
Card ordering
The cards on the player's hand are automatically ordered by suit, in this order: spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. If there are any cards of the same suit, they are organized by their rank, in this order: A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, and K.
Even though all Pikachu cards display "All" instead of any suit or rank, they are still automatically ordered as four different "A" cards, one of each suit. The word "All" is displayed on the card where the "A" rank would normally be. This English word is also used in the Japanese version.
Playing the game
In the Vs. CPU (single player) mode, during the first round of the current stage, the human player goes first, followed by the CPU character on the left, then the CPU character on the right. In the second round, whoever won the previous round plays first.
In each turn, a player can either move a single card from their hand to the center pile or draw a card from the deck to their hand.
Moving a card to the center pile is only available if this card has the same rank or suit as the card currently on top of the pile. If any cards on the hand can currently be moved to the pile, those cards will remain blinking in-game. If no card can be moved, the player will have no option but to draw a card.
Once this is done, it is the next player's turn. The game ends when any player is out of cards on their hand. This player will gain the "Finish Bonus" of 30 coins.
During a game, the player can press down to see one's own score from the previous round, or press up to see the opponents and how many cards they hand on their hands. The players are unable to see what cards are on each other's hands.
Deck running out of cards
If the deck runs out of cards, the center pile is shuffled and becomes the new deck. However, the top card (the latest card added) and any other cards added during the current player's turn will remain in the center pile.
If the center pile has no available cards for the deck, then the game will remain with no deck as long as needed. In this case, the players will have the option to skip their turn without drawing a card.
Cards
If the player has a Pikachu on their hand, this card appears with the word "All" instead of any suit or rank. However, this card's true rank is A, which is shown in-game when the card is on the top of the center pile.
