Johto Times is a newsletter created in February 2023 by Darren. Publishing new articles every Thursday, along with a focus on personal memories and nostalgia. Johto Times conducts interviews occasionally with notable members of the Pokémon community, such as, but not limited to, Dave Hillenbrand, former General Manager at Pokémon USA Carol Monahan, former Director of Sales and Logistics at Wizards of the Coast during 1993 through 2000, Tsukasa Hosono, one of the winners of the 1999 64 Mario Stadium Best Photo Contest, specifically, the Charmander card. Articles are sorted by volumes, volumes start at the first article of the year and end the last article of the year.

A goal of Johto Times is to document as to preserve and remember the history of the early Pokémon community and franchise from the 90's to 2000's, Johto Times doesn't exclusively cover this however, rather, it's mostly the focus as more recent content has been covered, such as- but not limited to, a concept for a Pokémon Legends Celebi [1] and Scarlet & Violet- 151.

Site

Johto Times is a free newsletter on Substack as a passion project, it uses British English.

Home

Includes a list of previous articles, the most recent article is top of the page. The Archive section also includes older articles.

Interviews

Filters the articles to only include articles with Interviews, these pieces are typically bundled with other recent news, causing the articles to be longer than other kinds of articles, the interview is at the bottom of the articles included.

Features

Feature articles are articles with more depth than an usual article, such as an article about Satoru Iwata and Pokémon.[2] Articles in this section are usually part of other sections, such as Collections or Opinions. There is a set of ongoing feature articles called "The Legacy of Pokémon", each part detailing Darren's experiences of that Generation of Pokémon games.

Opinions

Opinion articles are typically about a large scale subject or a general subject, the state of the TCG is one of the covered subjects in this section. [3] Opinions are not as widely covered as other sections of Johto Times, only containing three articles.

Collections

Collection articles include the personal collection of Darren, with a set of articles called "My Pokémon Collection". [4] However, Darren's collection is not the only collection featured, as Miles' Pokémon Figure Collection has also been featured. [5]

Memories

The Memories section largely include stories from the Mailbag section, these articles are typically named <Name>'s Pokémon Memories but not always, as with "Memories of Pokémon TCG East Coast Super Trainer Showdown" [6]

Mailbag

The Mailbag is where readers can contribute by sending by Pokémon-related questions, poems, collections, and/or anything thought to be featured. The Mailbag is closely related to the Memories Section, as most pieces in the aforementioned section are from the Mailbox.
