Rival (Japanese: ライバル Rival) is a Supporter card. It was first released as part of the Diamond & Pearl expansion.

You can't have more than 1 Prism Star card with the same name in your deck. If a Prism Star card would go to the discard pile, put it in the Lost Zone instead.
You can play only one Supporter card each turn. When you play this card, put it next to your Active Pokémon. When your turn ends, discard this card.
Reveal the top 5 cards of your deck. Your opponent chooses 3 of those cards. Put those cards into your hand and put other 2 cards on top of your deck. Shuffle your deck afterward.
Do Nothing  
At the beginning of your turn, flip a coin. If heads, you can do nothing during your turn. If tails, your opponent can do nothing during his or her next turn.

Release information

This card was included in the Diamond & Pearl expansion, first released in the Space-Time Creation expansion in Japan. It was reprinted in the Secret Wonders expansion, previously released in the Japanese Dialga LV.X and Palkia LV.X Constructed Standard Decks.


Rival is one of the only Supporter cards in the DP Era of the trading card game with a name in which the second word is not a possessive of the first word, the others being Professor Rowan and Fossil Excavator.


The illustration features Barry, the rival character in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
