Pokémon Local Acts (Japanese: ポケモンローカルActs Pokémon Local Acts) is an initiative to promote several prefectures of Japan through various Pokémon-themed campaigns. Participating prefectures are assigned Ambassadorial Pokémon (Japanese: 推しポケモン Favored Pokémon) that correspond to an element of the prefecture, such as similar-sounding names or a popular creation of the area. The Ambassadorial Pokémon act as mascots for the area, promoting tourism and exports.
History
The initiative was inspired by a collaboration between the Pokémon Daisuki Club and Kagawa Prefecture in 2015, with an April Fools' Day newspaper article claiming that 800 Slowpoke had escaped a research center.[1] This eventually led to another collaboration in 2018 where the prefecture announced it would change its name from "Udon Prefecture" to "Yadon Prefecture" as an April Fools' Day joke, followed by the Slowpoke Paradise in Kagawa event held from April 12 to 30, 2018.[2]
On October 11, 2018, Alolan Vulpix and Vulpix were appointed as the leader and deputy leader of the Hokkaido Aficionado Expedition during a signing ceremony held by the Hokkaido Government and The Pokémon Company.[3] On December 6, 2018, Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew were appointed as Tottori Furusato Ambassadors by Governor Shinji Hirai of Tottori Prefecture.[4] On December 17, 2018, Slowpoke was appointed as a member of Team Udon-ken PR during a a signing ceremony held by the Kagawa Prefectural Government and The Pokémon Company.[5] Starting with Chansey and Fukushima Prefecture on February 18, 2019, all subsequent Ambassadorial Pokémon have been appointed as Support Pokémon (Japanese: 応援ポケモン Support Pokémon) of their respective prefectures. On July 31, 2019, The Pokémon Company announced that these efforts would be reorganized under the Pokémon Local Acts banner, and launched the official Pokémon Local Acts and Poké Lids websites in five languages.[6]
From April 24 to May 6, 2025, the first Pokémon Local Acts Product Fair (Japanese: ポケモンローカルActs物産展 Pokémon Local Acts Bussanten) was held in Miyagi Prefecture.[7] Beginning with the product fair in Miyazaki Prefecture from December 26, 2025 to January 12, 2026, medals have been made available in Pokémon HOME at these events.
