Pokémon Carddass Part 1
Pokémon Carddass Part 1 are a set of Pokémon cards that were manufactured by a subsidiary of Bandai named Carddass in september 1996 in Japan, which makes them the first Pokémon cards ever made. These cards could be bought by using vending machines. Carddass (カードダス, Kādodasu) is a name given to Bandai's card vending machines and, thus, a generic term given to the cards sold by these machines. Pokémon Carddass Part 2 is also known as Bandai Pocket Monsters.
Background
The cards feature all 151 Pokémon from Generation I with additionally two Pokedex/checklist cards and one promotional 'town map' cards.
The front of the cards are emblazoned with "MONSTERS COLLECTION," cut-off English text, and watercolor art by Ken Sugimori, while the back provide information, stats, and the liklihood of finding the Pokémon in the green and Red video games. Interestingly, the background English text matches up with the text presented in the Pocket Monsters Pokedex, published in April 1996 and never brought to the US. It broadly describes Pokémon and their environments.
Part 1 & 2
With Carddass cards being 'pulled' from vending machines there is a completely different amount of information available then with Booster Boxes. Since these cards cannot be pulled anymore since 1996 there is no knowledge about the pull rates and specifics of different sets. With card sets from Booster Boxes most of the time there are still boxes available to break and/or enough videos of box breaks in general.
There has been a lot of debate about two scenario's:
- The Green and Red cards were published on the same date in different vending machines, with the Green cards being called Part 1 and the Red cards being called Part 2.
or
- The Green and Red cards were published together out of the same vending machine, with Carddass Part 1 being the first 76 Pokedex pokemon and Carddass Part 2 being the second 75 Pokedex Pokemon.
Based on circumstantial evidence here the choice was made to portrait the cards based on the first scenario.
