Movie Special 2: Pikachu's Unparalleled Adventure (Japanese: 映画公開記念'99 ピカチュウとたんけんちゅう Movie Premiere Special '99: Adventure with Pikachu) written by Junko Wada and illustrated by Toshinao Aoki. It is a special tie-in to the second movie and part of the Pokémon Tales series. This book is 20 pages in length.

Plot

A boy and his Elekid and a girl and her Pikachu leave the movie theater, deciding they want to go on an adventure: the boy will go explore a cave while the girl will head to the bottom of the ocean. The two's stories are told parallel, with the boy's on the top half of the book and the girl's on the bottom half.

The boy is told that he can find caves in the mountains and begins biking towards them, stopping to pick up a pair of hiking boots and sharing an ice cream. The two decide that a mountain is too much effort and instead head down to the park, a storm hits and the two take shelter under the awning of a bakery, wishing the girl was here as she always brought cookies.

The girl takes the train to the beach, and picks up snorkels and flippers for her and Pikachu only to almost end up drowning and remembering that she doesn't know how to swim - instead trading them in for a pair of float rings. After realizing they can't swim to the bottom of the ocean with their float rings, they try to dig a tunnel to the bottom of the ocean only to be overwhelmed by the sand. On their way home Pikachu grows tired and needs to be carried, the girl wishing her friend was here as he was strong enough to carry Pikachu.

The two meet up again and ask each other about their adventures, making up stories while the two Pokémon smile knowingly to themselves.

Blurb

In this second movie tie-in board book, Pikachu and a mystery Pokémon are sent on pretend trips - to the "South Seas" and to a secret cave. The stories are played out on each page in a split-screen style. In the end, the trainers compare adventures.

Inspired by Pokémon: the Movie 2000, a boy, girl, and their Pokémon set out on thrilling parallel adventures!
