Mega attack rare card (TCG)
Mega attack rare is a type of rarity in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, introduced in the Ascended Heroes expansion. They are Full Art Secret cards that showcase Mega Evolution Pokémon ex cards with the card's highlight attack written with large text on the foreground. Until the Ascended Heroes expansion, all English Mega Attack Rare cards were released as MEP Black Star Promotional cards.
Mega attack rare cards can be identified through the pop art style illustration with pastel pink and green stars
as their rarity symbol, based on the colors of the Mega Evolution energy seen on the corresponding print of Mega Dragonite ex. Additionally, their card artworks feature large text displaying the card's attack in another language, reminiscent of Mega Evolution Pokémon-EX cards from the XY series. Mega attack rare cards feature a more vibrant foiling pattern than the similar special illustration rare cards, as the Pokémon itself is rendered in etched foil (similar to the majority of Full Art cards), while the attack name is rendered in glossy foil with a pattern over the letters/katakana.
- English Mega attack rare cards feature Japanese text on the artwork. This is also the case for other cards released in languages written in the Latin alphabet, namely French, German, Italian, Spanish (both European and Latin American), Brazilian Portuguese, and Indonesian.
- Japanese Mega attack rare cards feature English text on the artwork. This is also the case for other cards released in languages not written using the Latin alphabet, namely Traditional Chinese and Thai.
Mega Attack Rare (Japanese: メガアタックレア Mega Attack Rare) can be seen as the cognate to this rarity in Asian language expansions. The Mega Attack Rare rarity is denoted by the MA (
) rarity symbol.
