Release information
This card was released as both a Regular card and a Full Art card in the English Phantom Forces expansion, first originating from the Japanese Phantom Gate expansion. Both prints feature artwork by Hitoshi Ariga.
On June 1, 2015, it was announced on the official Pokémon Trading Card Game forum that Lysandre's Trump Card was to be banned from all sanctioned Pokémon TCG tournaments beginning June 15, 2015 (June 20 in Japan), as it was ruled to create an unbalanced playing environment. The specific concerns were:[1]
It would eliminate the possibility of a player running out of cards in their deck, a victory condition for the other player.
It allowed a player to quickly draw through their deck without any negative effects.
It significantly increased the length of battles.
This card was also banned in the Gym Leader Challenge format from November 16, 2021 onward, citing the repeated use of cards as a main concern, especially since the Gym Leader Challenge format is envisioned as a singleton format.[2]
Trivia
Origin
Lysandre is the boss of Team Flare and is depicted with the cybernetic augments he wears during the final battle with him in Pokémon X and Y. The Team Flare Secret HQ is featured in the Regular print's illustration.
