Decidueye ex is a Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket deck archetype that has been played since the release of the Celestial Guardians expansion in 2025. While the deck has gone through several iterations, the core strategy revolves around using the titular card Decidueye ex as a reliable early game attacker and enabling its Pierce the Pain attack to snipe key opposing targets.
The archetype received its main boost in power in Extradimensional Crisis, which introduced new prints of Dartrix and Decidueye which significantly increased the consistency of the deck's core; as such, while Celestial Guardians-era builds included other evolution lines, later iterations of the deck focus solely on the Rowlet line.
Strategy
With Pierce the Pain dealing 100 damage to any opposing damaged Pokémon for ![]()
, Decidueye ex boasts both solid damage and excellent versatility. Its pre-Evolutions can both set this up by dealing chip damage to the opponent's Bench or Active Pokémon, and paired with Razor Leaf, this threatens 180 damage for a two-hit knockout to anything other than non-basic Mega Evolutions ex that cannot be avoided by Retreating. This is supplemented by Sniping Arrow from non-ex Decidueye, which deals less damage but can freely target Benched Pokémon without needing chip damage, and at 70 damage can knock out a majority of evolving Basic Pokémon or finish off damaged attackers.
Between these two strong, inexpensive, and flexible attacks, the deck's biggest strength is its ability to target and knock out the opponent's key Pokémon even while they are on the Bench; this has become especially notable post-Mega Rising, as being able to target down a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex can be game-winning. As such, the deck can forgo Cyrus for other Trainer cards as its main attacks can hit the Bench anyway, and being Stage 2
Grass Pokémon means the deck's attackers can use Leaf Cape, Lillie, and Erika to become extremely durable.
Weaknesses
While the deck is able to go first or second, going first is more risky due to the increasing power level of low-Energy attackers. Dartrix tops out at 110 HP with a Leaf Cape, which is susceptible to two-turn knockouts from Pokémon like Type: Null into Silvally, whereas evolving with Rare Candy means losing out on chip damage.
In order to operate well, the deck needs to be able to evolve Rowlet as early as possible, making hand disruption and Chingling detrimental to the deck's game plan. The high number of Evolution cards to facilitate a fast evolution also increases the number of dead draws, making it inconsistent for the deck to set up a second attacker.
Key cards
- Decidueye ex - The deck's strongest attacker, Decidueye ex can target any damaged Pokémon with Pierce the Pain and attack for solid damage with Razor Leaf, making it excellent at both applying pressure and finishing games.
- Decidueye - The single-point version of Decidueye trades Decidueye ex's damage output for flexibility, being able to freely attack the opponent's Benched Pokémon for relatively high damage.
- Rowlet and Dartrix - The Skill Dive versions of Rowlet and Dartrix are preferred for being able to deal chip damage to the Bench, setting up Pierce the Pain.
- Rare Candy - Allows Decidueye and Decidueye ex to start attacking as soon as possible.
