History

HeartGold & SoulSilver arc

In All About Arceus IV, Archer used Arceus to create Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina at the Sinjoh Ruins in order to create the strongest possible team for Team Rocket in hopes of having their former leader, Giovanni, return. Attempting to stop their creation, Gold and Crystal had Exbo, Megaree, and Feraligatr launch Blast Burn, Frenzy Plant, and Hydro Cannon, respectively. While the attack successfully blew away the energy used to create the three Pokémon, it only temporarily delayed the process while Arceus paused to absorb the Plates back into its body. Once Arceus was complete, the creation process proceeded, allowing all three Pokémon to be fully formed.

In All About Arceus VI, Dialga and Palkia proceeded to battle against Giratina, as they harbored memories of their past selves. Worried that the three's clash could bring about the end of the Johto and Sinnoh regions, Pryce, Lance, and Giovanni teamed up to stop the three dragons. Pryce used his Swinub to battle against Dialga. Due to his experience with controlling time, Pryce was unaffected by Dialga's Roar of Time.

In All About Arceus IX, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina were successfully transported out of the Sinjoh Ruins. With the danger over, Dialga and Palkia forced Giratina back into the Distortion World. Afterward, they departed from Johto to the Sinnoh region.

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire arc

Dialga appeared in a flashback in PS614, where Maxie and Archie explain how they left the Distortion World.

Diamond & Pearl arc

In Creeping Away from Cradily, Dialga, alongside Palkia, was summoned to the Spear Pillar by Cyrus with the power of the Red Chains. In Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia I Cyrus ordered the two dragons to fight one another so that the clash between time and space would bring about the new world he desired to create. As the two clashed, time and space began warping around Mt. Coronet before spreading to the rest of Sinnoh. Eventually, the Gym Leaders of Sinnoh arrived in order to stop Cyrus's plans by destroying the Red Chains. Despite Cyrus's interference, the Gym Leaders successfully destroyed one of the chains, effectively halving Cyrus's control over them. Angered by this, Cyrus attacked the Gym Leaders, defeating them.

In Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia III, Diamond and Pearl teamed up to try and fight Dialga and Palkia in order to stop their battle. Despite their best efforts, Dialga and Palkia's ability to control time and space completely negated their attempts. In Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia IV, Regigigas appeared to stop Dialga and Palkia's clash, preventing the hole in space-time they created from growing in size.

While Regigigas kept Dialga and Palkia at bay, Cyrus asked Diamond why he refused to accept the perfect world Cyrus envisioned. Diamond explained that Cyrus has no right to push his idea of what time and space should be on the rest of the world. To Cyrus's shock, he found that Dialga and Palkia actually stopped fighting and listened to Diamond's speech. Cyrus then used the remaining Red Chain to get Dialga and Palkia to fight again. Realizing that with only a single Red Chain, Cyrus can't fully control both dragons, Platinum told Diamond and Pearl to attack once an opening appeared. Once Cyrus lost control over Palkia, Diamond and Pearl had both their teams launch a simultaneous attack on Dialga, freeing it from Cyrus's control as well. With both dragons freed, they use their powers to defeat Cyrus, knocking him unconscious.

In Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia V, it is revealed that the hole in space-time was actually a portal to the Distortion World. Once Charon's machine interacted with the portal, Giratina used its tendril-like wings to grab Dialga, Palkia, and Cyrus before dragging them into the Distortion World with it.

Platinum arc

In The Final Dimensional Duel I, Dialga and Palkia are revealed to have been trapped in a stone prison by Giratina. With Dialga and Palkia trapped, Giratina became able to leave the Distortion World, allowing it cause havoc on the outside world.

In The Final Dimensional Duel VIII, Diamond's Kit and Cyrus's Honchkrow were used to free Dialga and Palkia from their prison. Dialga and Palkia then joined in the fight between the Legendary and Mythical Pokémon of Sinnoh. During the clash, Charon and Giratina fled and flew off to escape from the Distortion World and close the portal once they left, leaving the others trapped inside. Dialga teamed up with Diamond and chased after the two in order to stop them. Once Charon and Giratina escaped to Sunyshore City, the two were defeated by Cynthia's Garchomp's Draco Meteor.

After Charon was arrested by Looker, Giratina attempted to rise and continue the battle, only to be defeated by Volkner's Electivire and Flint's Magmortar. With Dialga and Palkia looming over it, Giratina decided to cut its losses and willingly returned to the Distortion World. Dialga and Palkia then returned to the Spear Pillar.

Personality and characteristics

Dialga is a powerful Legendary Pokémon capable of controlling time, allowing it to manipulate the flow of events to its will. It is a righteous Pokémon that fights together with Palkia to prevent Giratina from leaving the Distortion World.

Worried that the three's clash could bring about the end of the Johto and Sinnoh regions, Giovanni, Pryce, and Lance teamed up to stop the three dragons. Giovanni used his son's Ursaring to battle against Giratina. While Giovanni proved to be a strong opponent, his disease began acting up, preventing him from continuing the fight. Seizing the opportunity, Giratina attempted to attack Giovanni, but was stopped by Silver.

In All About Arceus IX, Giratina, Dialga, and Palkia were successfully transported out of the Sinjoh Ruins. With the danger over, Dialga and Palkia forced Giratina back into the Distortion World.

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire arc

Giratina appeared in a flashback in PS614, where Maxie and Archie explain how they left the Distortion World.

Diamond & Pearl arc

After Paka and Uji were transported to the Distortion World, Giratina would often chase down the two bodyguards and toy with them. In Double Trouble with Dialga and Palkia VI, Giratina uses its tentacles to drag Dialga, Palkia, and Cyrus into the Distortion World.

Platinum arc

In The Final Dimensional Duel I, Giratina landed in Eterna City after emerging from the Distortion World. Upon exiting the portal, it transformed its Altered Forme and crushed the statue of Dialga and Palkia under its feet. Hearing the commotion, Diamond and Pearl came to see what was going on, only to end up in a battle against Giratina. During the battle, Giratina fought against Diamond's Reg, who proved to be a powerful opponent for it.

In The Final Dimensional Duel II, Diamond pushed Pearl out of the way of Giratina's Shadow Force, taking the hit meant for Pearl in the process. The attack seemingly killed Diamond, which angered Reg into attacking Giratina with a large bundle of snow. Seeing itself outmatched, Giratina reverted to its Origin Forme and retreated back to the Distortion World. Afterward, Diamond's body faded away, where it eventually made its way into the Distortion World.

In The Final Dimensional Duel VI, Giratina battled against Flint's Magmortar and Volkner's Electivire in the Distortion World. The two Pokémon attacked with a combination of Lava Plume and Discharge, but were quickly taken out when Giratina returned the damage to them with Dragon Breath.

In The Final Dimensional Duel IX, Giratina joined in the fight between Sinnoh's Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. Though it, Charon's Heatran, and Darkrai proved to be a powerful combination, the interference of Shaymin caused Giratina to accidentally attack Charon. Fearing that he was outmatched, Charon used his machine to take control of Giratina and had it take him away to escape. Charon intended on having Giratina trap everyone by closing the portal to the outside world, but once they arrived in Sunyshore City, the two were defeated by Cynthia's Garchomp's Draco Meteor.

After Charon was arrested by Looker, Giratina attempted to rise and continue the battle, only to be defeated by Volkner's Electivire and Flint's Magmortar. With Palkia and Dialga looming over it, Giratina decided to cut its losses and willingly returned to the Distortion World.

Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon arc

Giratina appeared in a flashback in Flash and Cosmog's Secret, where Moon explained how Giratina emerged from the distortion world and attacked Sinnoh in the past.

Personality and characteristics

Giratina is a violent Pokémon. Due to its destructive nature, it was banished to the Distortion World. Giratina likes to toy with weaker foes, as it would spend much of its time following and attacking Paka and Uji while they were in the Distortion World. By using the spikes on its wings, it can tear open holes between dimensions, allowing to exit and enter the Distortion World at will as long as Dialga and Palkia are not preventing it from doing so.
