Release information

This card was one of the SM Black Star Promos available in a pack given to customers who bought $25 of TCG products at select retailers starting November 8, 2017. Packs would contain 3 of 6 promotional cards and were available in-store at GameStop in the United States and EB Games in Canada and Australia, and online from Target, Toys "R" Us, Walmart, and the online Pokémon Center. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, it was given away in the same packs at GAME, Waterstones, and Smyths stores for purchasing £19.99/€19.99 worth of TCG products, starting March 16, 2018. In Japan, this card was available as a SM-P Promotional card as part of the Ash's Pikachu GET Campaign, which began on June 16, 2017. For every five booster packs purchased in one transaction at participating store chains selling advance tickets for I Choose You!, customers would receive a special pack containing 1 of 6 possible promotional cards. These chains included APiTA, Piago, ÆON, Ito-Yokado, Toys "R" Us, Fuji, and HEIWADO, as well as Pokémon Centers and Pokémon Stores. 7-Eleven stores were specifically excluded. Both campaigns ran for as long as stocks lasted. The movie logo is featured in the bottom right corner of the illustration on both prints.

Trivia

Origin

Ash has owned Pikachu since the first episode of Pokémon the Series. Quick Attack and Volt Tackle are both moves in the Pokémon games that Pikachu can learn, and are also moves that Ash's Pikachu has used in Pokémon the Series. This card features Pikachu wearing Ash's cap as seen in Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl, and is based on one of the Pikachu in a cap distributed in the run-up to the release of the movie I Choose You!. This card's Pokédex entry is taken from the Cap Pikachu entry in Pokémon Sun.
