Name origin

I think the "Torra-" in Torracat comes from "tora" ( 虎 ), the Japanese word for "tiger", as it's feline and has stripes all over. Nyahiito may derive from "nya", the onomatopoeic Japanese "meow" (also derives from Litten's Japanese name "Nyabbi"), "hi" ( 火 ), Japanese for "fire", and the English word "heat". German Name origin. Mieze 'Moggy' and Zunder 'Tinder'. That is all. CzarTyrant (talk) 14:22, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Torr: A unit of pressure equivalent to 1 mm of mercury in a barometer and equal to 133.32 pascals.Yamitora1 (talk) 16:45, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
Torrefy: Roast, scorch, or dry (a substance such as an ore, a drug, or a fuel) with heat to drive off all moisture or impurities.

‘torrefying wood loses 30% of the mass but only 10% of the energy. Origin Early 17th century: from French torréfier, from Latin torrefacere dry by heat, from torrere parch, scorch. Yamitora1 (talk) 16:47, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Could also come from the word torrid, meaning really hot when referring to weather. That was my first thought when I saw the name!Magentafeelings (talk) 20:18, 4 October 2016 (UTC) I believe Nyaohiteu (the Korean name) is also a partial transliteration of "Nyahiito" (the Japanese one). It starts with the Hangul letters 냐 (nya) as opposed to 야 (ya) (which would be from 야옹 (yaong). DecafSnorlax (talk) 11:12, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

"Torra" is also similar to the Portuguese verb "torrar" (meaning "to roast"). Ratcicle Fan (talk) 00:17, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Russian name

The Russian name of Torracat is Торракат.--Celadonkey (talk) 15:28, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Origin of French Name

The french could also come from the phrase "m'as-tu-vu", which is a show off. --Unbirth (talk) 20:20, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
