== Happiness possibly incorrect ==
This discussion is related to the following line on the article:
"Pokémon can only find Shiny Leaves when they are happy. If the Pokémon is said to "let out a roar" or "make a face like its angry", its happiness is too low for the Pokémon to find a Shiny Leaf."
This may or may not be debatable to the subject on Shiny Leaves.  My Umbreon is likely at max happiness and already has the Leaf Crown, yet just moments ago refused to turn over something he found and became angry.
The line would hold more truth if it stated that a Pokémon couldn't find a Shiny Leaf while it was returning those responses, but as far as I'm concerned, your Pokémon becoming angry from not wanting to turn over an item doesn't necessarily mean it isn't happy enough to be eligible for finding a Shiny Leaf.

Major Change

I have updated everything to match the guide book for HG/SS. When merging natures together, the original list did not have full route lists for each nature within the respective family, so the nature with the most routes attached to it was the one I went with. The guide does not touch on Kanto routes at all, so the lists are most likely still not full. Shining Leaf A/B/C/D/E are each found on specific routes, but because I do not have the Kanto information and only Leaf A/B/C information for Johto, I left it for later. When the guide comes out we should make it a little more detailed to include which specific leaf can be found on which set of routes.(Yaminokame 03:35, 12 October 2009 (UTC))

The footnotes as they are now are not fully correct. Footnote 2 claims that Fire-, Water-, Ground- and Rock-types can't get the Leaf on that specific route. However, I just got the Shining Leaf on route 33, which is marked with footnote 2, with my modest Quilava. Gwannyn 07:34, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Hmm... that's odd... that footnote comes directly from two different official guides though :/ I guess we're going to need to test both of those footnotes with different possibilities and see if the guides were wrong then. (Yaminokame 07:48, 30 March 2010 (UTC))
I can vouch for this as well. Specifically serious sudowoodo on route 33. I do see what's in common with those types though. They're all weak to water (well, except the water types, don't know what's up with them). And that's a rainy route. Perhaps the guides messed up in relation to that, as sudowoodo here gave me an unhappy face a few times before dancing for the leaf. - Trainer Hunter 11:18, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
I think the Water-type is listed because Water-types get a special reaction in the rain too, just not a negative one. It would seem however, that the writers of the guides either got unlucky on those routes, or were too lazy to test it thoroughly. Gwannyn 17:22, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Leaf Crown is an accessory?

How does the Leaf Crown function as an accessory if there are no contests in HGSS? I don't have the games so I may have missed something but this puzzled me.--Beligaronia (talk) 09:05, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Accessories are available in HGSS to dress up Pokemon and take pictures of them in the underground path. I believe that's how it is, at least... it might be in the department store, I'm going by memory here, but there is somewhere in the games to dress up your Pokemon. 梅子 10:03, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Goldenrod Underground has the dressup place. Also, I have my doubts about it being an accessory... since I got the leaf crown like five times and even when I dress up a Pokémon that's earned it, it's not showing up. Is my game on crack, or is it a lie that it's an accessory...? ▫▪Ťïňắ 15:53, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Actualllyy... that was kind of a mistake. I believe the Leaf Crown also only shows up on the Pokémon's status screen. Sorry. --Bulbafan 02:32, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Aquisition Question

Are you required to fight wild Pokémon in the grass of a route if you want to find a Shiny Leaf there, or can you just use Repels and run around until you get it? --The Great Butler 02:26, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

You can just use repels and avoid wild encounters- so long as you're in the tall grass, it should work. ▫▪Ťïňắ 03:04, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

What do the letters mean?

What do the letters beside the routes mean. I assume they mean that a Pokémon with one of those natures will get that specific leaf from that specific route and can only get one leaf from that route.] This needs to be stated in the article (if indeed that is what it indicates). If I am wrong could someone please explain the true meaning. Thanking you in advance.--Beligaronia (talk) 06:41, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Leaf 'A' is the leaf on the farthest left and leaf 'E' is the one that is displayed farthest right on the Trainer Memo. The letter is set per route... if someone would like to put that into better words and add it... be my guest haha... (Yaminokame 08:11, 9 April 2010 (UTC))
So you're saying that my Hasty Chikorita would need to get one Leaf off each of Routes 44, 39, 26, 18, and 11 (in any order)? I can't get five Leaves off of Route 44? —darklordtrom 08:17, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
They should all be set, so not all from one route but one from each of the listed routes (I'm 99% sure about it). If someone would like to test multiples from one route, then we can make 100% sure. Also, it has been discovered that the order the leaves are picked in has an affect on how easy/hard they are to find... that may be something interesting to add to the article if we can get some people to research the orders :p (Yaminokame 08:33, 9 April 2010 (UTC))

Possible for a careful fire, rock, or ground type to get the leaf crown?

If you have to get 1 shiny leaf from each letter, how would a careful fire, rock, or ground type get the shiny leaf for letter A? The only route in the letter A has the 2 above it, making it seem impossible. Is this how it works, or can a Pokemon get one shiny leaf for each route in the letter E? ~~AuraGaurdian 16:07, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

This was discussed above, in the Major Change section. It is possible for those types to get the leaf on a route with the footnote 2. I got it for my Quilava quite quickly, but my Swinub would only complain about the rain for ages before I left the route and came back, so while it is possible, it may take some time and effort, or luck. Gwannyn 09:30, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Rarity

Are these really supposed to be rare to get? I just found out about this and pulled out my Quiet HM slave Bibarel and got all five leaves within around 20 minutes. I got them at these routes, in this order: Route 33, Route 36, Route 45, Route 7, and Route 8. -Tsanth 08:18, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

They can be relatively hard to get if gotten in a certain order. Specifically route 27 comes to mind as an extremely easy/hard route depending on the order you go in. (Yaminokame 08:25, 12 April 2010 (UTC))

Route 12

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but there isn't grass on route 12. --Swampertrox 12:47, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

correct... this shiny leaf stuff is so inconsistent it's starting to get annoying -_-* ... apparently route 12 is programmed to have a leaf, but there is no grass to get it... just like route 17 is programmed to have a leaf (along with route 18 (same exact leaf)) but your Pokemon can't follow on route 17 :/ (Yaminokame 13:53, 1 May 2010 (UTC))
As such I have made a note on the article. —darklordtrom 03:26, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
And Lati@s is supposed to be able to appear on route 17 also, even though there is no grass. --Swampertrox 22:22, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
That's different. Lati@s can be encountered while surfing (as can, oddly enough, Entei and Raikou). --AndyPKMN 00:48, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
EDIT: Route 17 does have tall grass. --AndyPKMN 00:52, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Uhh...

Just out of curiosity, what does the leaf crown do? ----Zewis29 (Talk, Contribs) 04:40, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

It could be to prevent a Pokémon from being traded to another game and used to get another trainer star easily (by having five Shiny Leaves). But that's just my guess. --Locrian 18:58, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

A project

Hey, it would b really nice if each HGSS route's article told what natures could find shiny leaves there. Just thinking --Desukaan563's userpage has a Value Formula to measure Pokémon worth (talk) 03:47, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

You know, I totally agree. That and adding which accessories can be found there would be great additions to the route articles. --AndyPKMN (talk) 16:14, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
If someone could alter the Route Template to include which natures can find the SL, that would help. ----Desukaan563's userpage has a Value Formula to measure Pokémon worth (talk) 04:17, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

route 44?

In the first nature set, it says route 44 is a place to find a leaf but it has NO grass patches! HELP!!!!

Katara317 00:00, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

You don't walk in the patches, you just walk with your Pokémon and talk to it until it finds it. Gliscorguy54 00:59, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Actually, there is a grassy area on Route 44. It's in the middle of the lake, though, so you have to use Surf to get there. --RiverAura 02:35, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
