Salon Maiden Anabel (Japanese: タワータイクーン リラ, Tower Tycoon Lila) is the Frontier Brain in charge of running the Battle Frontier's Battle Tower.
In the anime
Anabel appears in the episodes Talking a Good Game and Second Time's the Charm. She is voiced by 木村亜希子 Akiko Kimura in Japanese and Hilary Thomas in English.
Anabel has the empathic ability to sense the emotions of her Pokémon and give them telepathic commands, posessing powers similar to Yellow of Pokémon Special, although the other characters do not seem to regard these as psychic abilities but rather a honed sense of empathy. Nevertheless, she is still portrayed as something of a Psychic-type specialist.
She tries to teach her empathetic abilities to Ash, but he is unable to learn. Ash is surprised to learn that Anabel is a girl.
Ash lost his first match to Anabel after her powerful Alakazam managed to defeat two of his Pokémon in a row, outmatching both Ash's Corphish and Tauros. In a rematch, Ash beats them by using the same strategy as before.
Anabel has a crush on Ash. When Ash leaves, Anabel thinks, "You weren't able to read my heart after all, were you, Ash." (Japanese: 最後までボクの気持ちは読めなかったね、サトシ。) See AbilityShipping.
The Battle Tower is located somewhere near the Tohjo Falls.
Pokémon
Anabel has these Pokémon in the anime:
In the games
Anabel's heard rumors of Brendan/May's rankings in the Battle Tower, but isn't impressed. She wants to see their talent in battle for herself. When defeated, she awards the Ability Symbol onto the Frontier Pass.
On the second match, Anabel commends Brendan/May's progress, and is grateful for the chance to battle without holding anything back; to battle to her fullest.
In the Games and Manga she is considered the leader of the Frontier Brains. In the anime this role is given to Brandon instead.

Gender
In Japan, there is some debate about whether Lila was male or female.
- Officially, it is 不明 - unknown, uncertain, ambiguous.
- Lila uses the stereotypically male first-person pronoun ボク boku.
- However, at least one other female character speaks in that manner.
- In AG169, Takeshi does not become infatuated with Lila, (though he rarely becomes infatuated with girls younger than he is), but she is ultimately revealed to be female.
- In AG170, she turns red when Ash touches her hand; she has a crush on him.
