A move deleter (Japanese: わすれオヤジ Wasure Oyaji) is the opposite of a move tutor. They will cause a Pokémon to forget a move it knows.

This is the only way for a Pokémon to lose HM moves, such as Fly or Cut. In order to delete an HM move, one must first have another Pokémon with that same move in order for it to be deleted. This is done so that a player will not get stuck in an area where an HM move is required to continue.

His service was also used in the Generation II games to delete moves exclusive to the generation, so that Pokémon could be traded to Generation I games. Similarly, a Pokémon in Generation III must first forget its HM moves before it can be transferred to Generation IV via Pal Park.
