Synopsis

The last battle left off with Ash fighting Macy, which turned out that Ash won the match. And it soon left off with Jackson fighting Macy. Each of them are down to their last Pokemon. Macy already choosen her Quilava, but Jackson goes off wth some show-boat antics in front of the camera. He says if Jimmy or Marina is watching, he hopes they'll root him on. Finally he jumps off and goes into his trainer's box where he sends out Poliwhirl. Macy tells Quilava to use Flamethrower. Jackson tries to tell Poliwhirl what to attack with, but he trips on his cape and falls. Poliwhirl gets toasted and knocked out. Macy wins, giving her 3 points. All that's left on the line up is Jackson and Ash.

Ash watch Bulbasuar and Squirtle play with each other while him, Misty, and Brock talk about the tournament. They decide to get some rest and see what this Jackson is made out of. The gang retires to the Pokemon Center and rests up for the next battle. Ash notices Professor Elm's voice as someone is talking to him, which is Jackson. Ash and Elm catch up while Jackson's still on the line, and as for Jackson, he introduces himself to Ash. Meanwhile outside, Squirtle shoots down an apple from a tree and Bulbasuar tries to grab it with his vines. However, as soon as he caught it, someone else caught it too, a Meganium! The Meganium is accompanined with a Azumarill it looks like. Both grass types do a tug of war for the apple, which ends up splitting in half. Each water Pokemon gets it, but the Azumarill throws it at Squirtle's face. Wanting to get back at the Azumarill, Squirtle puts on his shades and stomps towards the Pokemon. Bulbasuar tries to stop Squirtle but Meganium slaps him in the face. When Bulbasuar tries to walk off, Meganium grabs his leg, making Bulbasuar fall. Now it's personal.

In the Pokemon Center, Ash and Jackson hear people talking about Pokemon fighting. The ones they hear invovled are a Bulbasuar and a Meganium. Ash and Jackson repeat the Pokemon and figure out it's probably theirs. They run out and see that the Pokemon are fighting (well, not really fighting, just doing some weird staring game) and they try to break up the fight. Harrison comes in with Miltank to have her use Sweet Scent, and the Pokemon instantly stop fighting. Ash thanks Harrison for the help and soon Officer Jenny comes by to see what all the commotion was about. All of a sudden Gary comes about and steals a bit of the spotlight, then Jenny goes off. Gary talks some more to Ash before walking off, leaving Ash angered.

Back in their room, Brock says that they could look up Jackson's Pokemon with the PC. He soon does and gets a list of Pokemon. Brock points out to the one's that Ash should watch out for, such as Meganium and a gold colored Magneton. The match shouldn't be too rough for Ash to talk on, as long as he doesn't make a mistake.

After a moment, the match soon starts off. The announcer gives the introduction as the roulette spins. It stops on Jackson and so he sends out his first Pokemon, after making a comment to Marina for the camera. Jackson's first Pokemon is Azumarill. For this one, Ash sends out Pikachu. Jackson gives the first command, a Hydropump. Ash tells Pikachu to do a Quick Attack. Pikachu manages to out pace Azumarill's reaction and almost gets to the Pokemon but the Azumarill dodges just before impact. The water mouse retaliates with Ice Beam that keeps Pikachu still enough for Azumarill to give Pikachu an Iron Tail. But instead Ash tells Pikachu to grab on, and Pikachu does, remaining on the Azumarill. Soon Pikachu delivers an almighty Thunder on Azumarill, giving and instant KO.

Next up for Jackson is Magenton. Pikachu fires off a Thunderbolt, but Magneton handles it well, followed by another Thunderbolt from Magneton. Ash knows that electric attacks aren't going to work, so he'll have to go with the other attacks. Pikachu tries to do a Quick Attack, but Magneton dodges and uses Thunder Wave, holding Pikachu down. Finally, Jackson ends it all with a Tri-Attack. Pikachu is hurled right into a wall, and went down for the count. Ash hurries to pick Pikachu up and thanks him.

Ash's next Pokemon turns out to be Cyndaquil, knowing that Steel types don't have a chance against Fire. Looks like Ash underestimated Magneton, as Cyndaquil just can't seem to get a shot at Magneton with Flamethrower... The end result is another Thunderwave plus Tri Attack combination.

Ash returns Cyndaquil and already releases his last Pokemon to fight with; Bulbasuar. Jackson starts off with Tri-Attack but Bulbasuar uses Vine Whip to jump-dodge the attack. Bulbasuar fires a few Razor Leaves, but Magneton simply dodges. As soon as Bulbasaur lands, the Magneton does Double Team. Ash knows just what to do. He tells Bulbasaur to do Vine Whip, but this time, swing it across. Bulbusaur shoots out two vines in opposite directions and does a giant swing, hitting the Magneton. Finally Bulbasaur gives Magneton a Leech Seed, draining Magneton's last energy.

Jackson sends out his last Pokemon, Meganium. It looks like the two grass types still a feud to settle. Bulbasaur gives the first attack with a Razor Leaf, however Meganium dodges it. Meganium attacks back with Razor Leaf, but Bulbasaur dodges that too. The two Pokemon exchange attacks, until they both settle for Solar Beam. The beams explode in the center, the two Pokemon still standing. Now it's a endurance match of slapping each other with Vine Whip, and things end as soon as both of them hit each other at the same time. Finally, both just collaspe, the match ends in a draw!

Ash qualifies to go onto the next step up. And when he sees the tournament tree in the Pokemon Center, his next opponent is... Gary!

Dub edits

  • Two of Jackson's references to Jimmy and Marina were removed. In a third, the dub refers to Yoshi and Dani, leading to confusion over whether those were the intended dub names.
