Cassandra's Parasect (Japanese キヨミ パラセクト Kiyomi's Parasect) is a character of the day in The Problem with Paras, and the first known Pokémon belonging to Cassandra.

History

Parasect first appeared as a Paras in The Problem with Paras. At the time, Cassandra was attempting to get Paras to evolve so she could use Parasect's mushroom to create a potion that would enhance a Pokémon's defense power, attack power, concentration, determination, and intelligence. The only problem with this plan was that Paras was extremely weak and shy, to the point where it backed off from Pikachu when he offered Paras a friendly greeting. Ash agreed to battle Paras to get it to evolve. Paras made the first move, but Pikachu jumped over the Stun Spore, and under Ash's orders, issued an extremely weak attack. However, Paras fainted when Pikachu shot a tiny static bolt at it, and reacted likewise when Squirtle sprinkled it with a very weak Water Gun. Ash, however, did not give up, and sent out Charmeleon, which proved very quickly to be a large mistake; Charmeleon had absolutely no intention of throwing the battle or taking it easy on Paras. It ignored Ash's orders and fired full-power Flamethrowers at Paras, incinerating it and scaring it off.

Shortly afterwards, Meowth found Paras and promptly hatched a plan to make Paras evolve and get involved its trainer at the same time (Meowth was rather smitten with Cassandra, although it talked Jessie and James into this by telling them of the fortune they could make off of the miracle potion Cassandra wished to make). Meowth borrowed Arbok and Weezing from their respective trainers because losing was their specialty, and pitted them against Paras. However, before they could even touch Paras, Meowth stomped on Arbok's tail and whacked Weezing with a tree branch. Each time, Jessie and James would emphatically congratulate Paras, as if it had beaten them. Meowth then "battled" Paras; Paras poked Meowth with one of its claws, and Meowth dramatically pretended to faint. By this time, Paras had gotten a very significant confidence boost and climbed up onto a tree. Ash, his friends, and Cassandra subsequently found Paras on the tree and brimming with confidence. It lured Pikachu close, then stabbed its tail with its claw. Pikachu was about to react to this, but Ash shook his head; Pikachu instead pretended to faint. Ash then sent Charmeleon back out. Paras's newfound confidence began waning quickly as Charmeleon bared down on the Mushroom Pokémon. Team Rocket then showed up and cheer Paras on, revealing in the process that Meowth helped train Paras. Charmeleon then began approaching Paras again, and prepared to attack. Paras closed its eyes and randomly jabbed Charmeleon with its claw. However, it seemed to hit Charmeleon unusually hard, knocking it out. As Paras looked at the unconscious Charmeleon in surprise, it glowed and began to evolve. As it evolved into Parasect, Charmeleon recovered and sent Team Rocket blasting off. Then it turned on Parasect again, but Parasect blasted it with Spore, and Ash returned Charmeleon to its Poké Ball. Parasect was subsequently seen in Cassandra's house as Cassandra tended to Team Rocket. It was at that time that Meowth discussed being Cassandra's company mascot; however, Cassandra said no, as she wouldn't want to take him away from Team Rocket. As if to add insult to injury, Cassandra's grandmother walked in with a Persian she found in the backyard, and Cassandra decided to adopt it as her company mascot to remind her of Meowth.

Neither Parasect nor its trainer have made any subsequent appearances.
