The (B)ulba(G)arden (P)okémon (A)nime (S)tyle (B)attling (L)eague was an ASB League run on the original Bulbagarden, which still exists to the present day.

Pre-Bulbagarden

The league did not originate on Bulbagarden, nor was Archaic its first President. The league was first established on the Universal Pokemon Network (UPN) forums in 2000 by user 'Ben the Pokemanic' (Who was also President of the Official PokéShippers at the time). The league, the first ASB association established (The TPM ASB would not be established for several more months) while not especially popular, was reasonably active. Unique to the PASBL too, at least originally, was the concept of signature moves, special custom moves unique to each Pokémon owned by each trainer. Soon however, Ben would find himself burdened by real life, and would resign from his positions in both UPN PASBL and OPS, giving the PASBL Presidency over to user 'X-Rok', who had contributed significantly to the rules development at this point. X-Rok would end up running the league until the death of UPN late in that year.

The move to Bulbagarden

With the death of the original UPN and the disapperance of X-Rok, Archaic, one of the more prominent members of the league, took over the presidency and moved the league to Bulbagarden, where he had recently been made moderator of the anime forum. Along with this move came a significant re-write of the rules, almost from the ground up, resulting in the v2 rules which have been the basis for all PASBL rules systems from this date, introducing concepts such as injuries, the 10 (now 13) level system, league officials and official referees (and the referee grading system), as well as allowing for the first time in PASBL the use of Pokémon from the Gold & Silver versions of the gameboy games, something the TPM ASB had already allowed for some time. From here, the golden age of PASBL would begin.
