Alto Mare (Japanese: アルトマーレ; Italian lit. high sea), also known as the capital of the water (Japanese: 水の都), is the setting of Pokémon Heroes. It is based on Venice, Italy: Alto Mare is a city of canals, and a major mode of transport is by gondola.
Every year, there is a race on the water where trainers race on floating platforms pulled by their Pokémon.
The city is guarded by the legendary Pokémon Latias and Latios.
