Game Freak, Inc. (Japanese: 株式会社ゲームフリーク Kabushikigaisha Game Freak) was founded on April 26, 1989 by Satoshi Tajiri. Originating as a video game magazine, they soon branched into game development, creating such low-key games as Quinty (renamed Mendel Palace in North America) and also developing licensed games such as Mario and Wario.

They released Pokémon Red and Green Versions on February 27, 1996, and would go on to create many of the sequels, mostly sticking to the main series of games.

The company currently employs a staff of 52, as of mid-2007.[1]

The company has stated that it will close before the start of 2012.
