The design of the four major Pokémon regions - Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Orre are strikingly similar in geography and demographics to regions in the real world.

Kanto

The Kantō region of Japan is not only identical in name to Kanto in the Pokémon world, it is also very similar geographically.
