Ash, May and Max were walking in a forest. May started complaining that she is hungry while Max complained that no Pokémon could be seen. May thus voted for a rest, and after Ash's decision, the group took a rest. During the rest, the group found that they were lacking food, as well as Pokémon food. Ash suddenly thought of Brock and told Max and May about Brock. Max now took out a emergency provision-a chocolate bar. Upon opening, a Taillow flew pass, grabbed the chocolate bar and flew away. The group therefore followed the Taillow, with May after the food and Max exclaiming that he finally found a Pokémon. That Taillow soon ate the chocolate bar.

The group's hunger were reminded when Ash's Pikachu pointed to a tree full of berries. Ash commanded Pikachu shake down some berries. However, the Taillows in the forest grabbed the berries instead.

Even after the Taillows got their berries, they wanted a fight. Pikachu took down some Taillows easily as it had a type advantage. However more Taillows appeared and soon knocked Pikachu out. When the group was left vulnerable, someone commanded a Fortress to use explosion. When the smoke from the attack cleared, the group figured out that Brock-Ash's old travelling pal and a great cook-was there.

Brock then cooked something for the group while Team Rocket planned to catch Pikachu making use of the Taillows. The gained the trust of the Taillows by giving them food, and therefor the Taillows listened to them.

A Taillow (who acted like the leader of the flock) challenged Ash. Ask's Pikachu knocked down after several tries and also tiring itself. Soon, the flock of Taillows who was bribed by Team Rocket appeared, ready to attack Ash. However, Ash's new gained Taillow ordered the flock to turn away. Pikachu, who had eaten Brock's food in advance, blasted Team Rocket away.

The group, now with two new members-Brock and Taillow-continued their journey.
