Pokémon Emerald is a sister game to Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, and is one of the Generation III games.

Changes from Ruby and Sapphire

  • Brendan and May have slight outfit changes.
  • Vigoroth are in place of Machoke moving boxes into Brendan's house.
  • Wireless linking with Union Room.
  • Wireless mini-games added to Mossdeep City.
  • New battle area, Trainer Hill.
  • New battle area, the Battle Frontier.
  • Double Battles are common among trainers.
  • Gym Leaders may be rebattled in Double Battles, with new Pokémon on their teams.
  • A new Gym Leader in the final gym.
  • A new Pokémon Champion.
  • Steven appears in Meteor Falls.
  • The Trainer's Eyes is replaced by Entry Call, which integrated a calling system.
  • Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile may be gotten from Professor Elm after filling much of the Pokedex.
  • Deoxys is in its Speed form.
  • New map effects for Abilities.
  • New item-list for Pick Up; Pokémon picks up item based on Pokémon's level.
  • Passing-down Abilities with Everstone when breeding Pokémon.

  • Lilycove City Sister in Lilycove Pokémon Center.
  • New areas including the Safazi Zone and Desert Tunnel, introducing Johto-region Pokémon.

  • Pokémon animate in battle.
  • Groudon and Kyogre are captured at new locations and on higher levels.
  • Mew appears on an island far-away from Hoenn. Requires a special promotional boat ticket to reach.
  • Pokémon Battle Tents replace Pokémon Contest buildings.
  • Pokémon contests are all held in Lilycove.
