Russian name

The Russian name of Brionne is Бриан, according to the Russian site. --Celadonkey (talk) 15:29, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Name origin - German

I'd say its from mare (Latin for sea) and keck (German for perky or sassy) - unsigned comment from HQna (talkcontribs)

Name Origin - English

I don't think it's from 'brine' lol. Pretty sure it's from brio which is a noun meaning vivacity of style or performance and undine, a type of female water nymph/mermaid. - unsigned comment from Fresco (talkcontribs)

I also now think it's highly like to be derived from mignonne, which is French for pretty/cute/charming. POSSIBLY even lionne, which is French for lioness (as in a female sea lion), though not so much. Thoughts? - unsigned comment from Fresco (talkcontribs)

Could be a mixture of more than one of these things, as TPCI has done that in the past. I say for now wait for mods to respond. --Celadonkey (talk) 20:35, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

There is no -dine or even -ine in this name that suggests a link to "undine". To the best of my etymological knowledge this is a combination of "brio" and "lionne". Although "brine" may not be directly linked, overall the entire name may reference this word. If you pronounce it "brai-on-ee" the vocal resemblance to "brai-n" is quite striking. "brai" as in the "i" sound, not "ay" as in "brain"!! Noveira (talk) 15:38, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
I'd say "mignonne" is plausible too. Also, just nitpicking, but for clarity since most users of Bulbapedia are English speakers I'd recommend saying "eye" or something because usually in English "ai" makes a long A sound. But judging from the Russian transcription and recent transcription trends I'd say Brionne is pronounced "bree-AHN". Almost like how you'd say Brian in French. - unsigned comment from Celadonkey (talkcontribs)
Haha, thanks! I was trying to think of a way to express the "eye" sound and I clearly failed! Noveira (talk) 01:13, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
It's fine! Up until recently, I thought that the expression "hai" used on the Internet was the same as "hey" and not "hi". --Celadonkey (talk) 11:26, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Shortest 2nd Stage starter Pokemon.

  • Brionne is the shortest second stage starter Pokemon. It shares this trait with Frogadier.
