Serebii.net has suffered from a number of server problems since it burst into the ranks of the major Pokémon sites in 2002. Up until March 2003, its uptime could be called sporadic at best, with large downtimes of up to 6 months, due primarily to Serebii.net outgrowing a sequence of servers that it was being hosted on for no charge. Out of some sense of pity to Serebii's situation, [[Archaic]] introduced [[Craig Maloof]] (who had recently made a similar offer to [[Bulbagarden]], though this offer was rejected) to Serebii, who made an offer to pay for Serebii's server costs. Since that time, Serebii.net has been hosted on Craig's own private servers, with the hosting bills apparently being paid for via the single Google AdWords banner on every page of the site and forums.

Additionally, Serebii has rather famously suffered from a number of internal problems with its staffing, which could be said to have had a significant impact on its development. Details regarding most of these internal disputes are difficult to pin down, due to the great majority remaining behind closed doors in the SPPf staff forum. and topics are deleted or hidden and archived very quickly on the rare occasions these disputes spill out into the public arena. The most famous, and likely most influential staff dispute would likely center around the creation of Bulbagarden, with then-SPPf Admin Archaic leaving to "resurrect" the old site, taking a number of SPPf moderators with him. The disputes that followed on SPPf following the forums coming back online (After a 6 month downtime), including accusations of hacking being leveled against Archaic by Serebii, led to the departure of several more, including [[Damian Silverblade]] and [[Barb]].

Serebii.net or SPP (Serebii's Pokémon Page/Place) is a fan site created by Serebii in the fall of 1999 when many Pokémon sites were starting to appear, seemingly out of nowhere. The site first gained popularity as a GeoCities site, where it was also a member of the Articuno Island network.

Background Information

It is a well known source for Anime, Nintendo gaming and TCG information. The site currently is one of the most up-to-date Pokémon websites on the Internet, updated almost on a daily basis.

It also had a close affiliation with the short lived Pokémon Official Magazine in the UK.

Controversy

Serebii.net has occasionally been the center of controversy, as its webmaster has faced accusations of theft in the past. Serebii, the owner, claims that he personally has stolen nothing since mid-2002. Since mid-2002, there however has been at least one case of material appearing on Serebii's site that had been created by another fansite; though Serebii has stated that this resulted from the work of unscrupulous fans stealing the material from the original site and passing them along to him, without informing him of the source. Although he has shown reluctance to remove such material at times, Serebii eventually accepts to do so in the vast majority of cases.

Problems Afoot

Serebii.net has suffered from a number of server problems since it burst into the ranks of the major Pokémon sites in 2002. Up until March 2003, its uptime could be called sporadic at best, with large downtimes of up to 6 months, due primarily to Serebii.net outgrowing a sequence of servers that it was being hosted on for no charge. Out of some sense of pity to Serebii's situation, Archaic introduced Craig Maloof (who had recently made a similar offer to Bulbagarden, though this offer was rejected) to Serebii, who made an offer to pay for Serebii's server costs. Since that time, Serebii.net has been hosted on Craig's own private servers, with the hosting bills apparently being paid for via the single Google AdWords banner on every page of the site and forums.
