Template:Infobox town Cianwood City (Japanese: タンバシティ Tanba City) is located in on the very western tip of Johto, apparently on a totally different landmass than the rest of the region. Its motto is "A Port Surrounded by Rough Seas!"

Pokémon Trainers often come to Cianwood City in order to win the Storm Badge from Chuck, the Cianwood Gym Leader who specializes in Template:Type2 Pokémon.

Tales of Lugia and the Whirlpools it creates circulate among the sailors that stop in this port town.

Places of interest

Pokémon Seer

In the very north of the city, there is a small house with an elderly woman who can tell where and when a Pokémon in the Trainer's Party has been caught. The Seer can only be found in the Crystal Version. If a Pokémon traded from another game is shown to her, she will not be able to identify any details about it.

Photo Studio

There's a Photo Studio where pictures of Pokémon can be taken. This is meant to work with the Game Boy Printer peripheral.

Cianwood City Pharmacy

The Cianwood City Pharmacy sells remedies exclusive to the town. Jasmine will ask that the main character of Generation II fetch her Ampharos some medicine from there, and the SecretPotion that Cynthia gives the main character of Generation IV is from there as well.

After giving Jasmine the medicine, players can return to the Pharmacy to find that Potions and Full Heals are in stock. However, this Pharmacy replaces the Mart, so players cannot buy Poké Balls in the area.

Area north of the city

In the very north of the city, there is a small area with a ledge where Suicune will be at a certain point of time in the game. Eusine will appear after it runs away, and will battle you in an effort to prove itself to Suicune.

A colored background means that the Pokémon can be found in this location in the specified game. A white background with a colored letter means that the Pokémon cannot be found here.

Mania's House

Mania, a PokéManiac on the island, will give the main character of Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal a Shuckle for safekeeping after Silver steals his Sneasel.

The only way in or out of Cianwood City is to Fly or Surf through the sea to the east, Route 41.

Demographics

Cianwood City has a total population of 19. Therefore, it is one of the smallest cities in Johto. It presents little emigration, because of its remote position in Johto. Cianwood City is strongly related to Olivine City, as the only route to Cianwood is Olivine.

Name origin

Cyan is a light blue-green color.

Trivia

  • Cianwood is a part of a trend of having a southwestern island in the region with a Gym established on it. This trend includes Cinnabar Island, Cianwood City, and Dewford Town.
  • Cianwood was the first island to not include a Poké Mart but have a Gym, that then carried on into the next generation.
  • Cianwood was the first Template:Type2 Pokémon Gym where the player received an Official Pokémon League Badge. If not for losing it's official status, the honor would have gone to Saffron City and their Fighting Gym. Though even if the Saffron Gym reattained its official status again and be able to award badges, Cianwood would still be the first Fighting Type gym that the player would have to defeat in order to gain a badge.
  • Like Chuck, the leader of the Cianwood Gym, Brawly of Dewford Gym would specialize in Template:Type2 Pokémon in the next generation also being on a island without a Poké Mart.
