This is an ongoing discussion on Bulbapedia. Most people I talked agreed that cropping and centering is fine as long as the body of the Pokémon and anything it emits remain intact. I will refrain from starting the project until we get a consensus. I am leaning towards having two versions of each page. Example: 0001Bulbasaur.png would be a resized, completely cropped and centered version that we'd use in templates. Templates display these images at a very small size and the intricacies of Sugimori art mean we can't allow dead space around the Pokémon. Bulbasaur.png (this format isn't currently used) would be the highest quality and highest resolution released by TPC. It may have a white outline, but that's fine since the image would be used in the Pokémon's main infobox template. This satisfies both groups. We have consistency on template pages, no white outlines, everything follows a strict formatting guideline, while also hosting the highest possible quality art, making them easily accessible.

This is an ongoing discussion on Bulbapedia. Most people I talked agreed that cropping and centering is fine as long as the body of the Pokémon and anything it emits remain intact. I will refrain from starting the project until we get a consensus. I am leaning towards having two versions of each page. Example: 0001Bulbasaur.png would be a resized, completely cropped and centered version that we'd use in templates. Templates display these images at a very small size and the intricacies of Sugimori art mean we can't allow dead space around the Pokémon. It may have a white outline, but that's fine since the image would be used in the Pokémon's main infobox template. This satisfies both groups.
