Anniversary edition: Welcome to the World of Pokémon

  • The project took six years to make, and nearly drove the company into bankruptcy. Five employees left the company due to the lack of funding, and Satoshi Tajiri worked most nights unpaid.
  • Before Shigeru Miyamoto pitched in to help, the series was originally called Capsule Monsters.
  • The games exploded in Japan's market, and later spawned a Trading Card Game, and various manga series until later getting its very own cartoon series.
