Welcome to Bulbapedia, Monsterhart!

By creating your account you are now able to edit pages, join discussions, and expand the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Before you jump in, here are some ground rules:

  • Be nice to everyone. It's in the code of conduct.
  • Make good edits. Preview them before you save to make sure they're perfect the first time around.
  • Use wikicode and link templates when adding content to a page.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling, and read the manual of style.
  • You can't create a userpage until you've added to the encyclopedia. It's a privilege. See the userspace policy.
  • Use talk pages to resolve editing disputes. Don't "edit war," or constantly re-edit/undo the same thing on a page.
  • If you have a question about something, be proactive. Ask for help. The staff won't bite.
  • Sign all talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~). This will turn into your name and the time you wrote the comment.
  • For more handy links, see the welcome portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

The Preview Button

Instead of editing a page several times in a row, try using the preview button to make sure your edit looks the way you want it to. It's right next to the Save Changes button... Please try it out, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. Thanks! --Werdnae (talk) 06:54, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

A reminder, please use the preview button rather than saving the page a dozen times. Werdnae (talk) 19:29, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Also, could you finally keep that location in TM71 as [[Training Cavern]]? We don't have link templates for everything.----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 19:37, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Code of conduct

Personal attacks such as this are not appropriate. (Just in case: your subsequent alteration does not materially improve anything.) Please make sure you are familiar with our code of conduct and act accordingly.

(Also: please use the preview button. See above.)

Thank you. Tiddlywinks (talk) 18:31, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

It is NOT a personal attack, it is a genuine question which I later realized could be misconstrued as offensive and adjusted the wording to relay my question with more clarity. How is it an attack to ask what a persons intention is? It isn’t like I called him evil or anything, I asked if his intention behind a specific action was meant to be evil or not. I even specified that by evil I’m referring to the aspect of retrogression specifically. Even if his intention was purely for the sake of retrogression; which I no longer believe is the case; that doesn’t mean he is evil as a whole nor would I assume that he is. You are the only one making assumptions here.
So how would you go about asking someone if their purpose for continually undoing your improvements of a page has evil intent rather that practical intent? I am under the impression that intentionally harassing people and being malicious is against the code of conduct, and I felt that he was doing this but was attempting to open a dialogue with him to resolve the issue before reporting him. Do you not think what he was doing is wrong, or do you only reprimand people who try to resolve matters with words rather than immediately reporting the situation and praying the authority handles the situation? For the record we have resolved the situation on the page in question.
I do use the preview button... The above posts as you can see were from 8 years ago when I was new to the site and the edits to the message you quoted were made over significant periods of time, enough that I had finished and gone on to other things then had another thought on it and went back to make the change. Although on occasion the form submits while I’m in the middle of editing and I have to press the back button and continue my edit which makes it appear as a double edit also, and I cannot control that. However it is not a serious issue I think as it only happens maybe 1/6 of the time.
Sincerely, monsterhart (talk) 10:57, 6 April 2018 (PT)
Asking someone if they are trying to "be evil" is not asking what their intentions are. Asking someone if they are "trying to condemn [their] soul to the Underworld" is also not asking what their intentions are. These are both rather extreme expressions to direct at another person. (That is not assumption.)
I don't know if that's how you would talk to people face-to-face, but I will tell you, *I* am very sure that those are not nice things to say. So if that is your habit, then while you are here, I would ask that you make every effort to avoid such pitfalls and communicate civilly.
With that out of the way...
You said you weren't sure of their intent. Allow me to inform you of a very important tenet of contributing on wikis: Assume good faith. If you disagree with someone's edit, you should be trying to explain to them clearly (and, again, civilly) why your information is correct and should stay. You don't need to accuse someone of bad intentions at all.
To address your questions regarding FinnishPokéFan92's actions, there was no reasonable basis for concluding that it was harassment. It was just two reversions on one page, and by no means was anything offensive even said. I hope you will absorb this explanation and demonstrate better judgement in the future. Remember: assume good faith.
As for using the preview button: I was not referring to years-old edits, I only meant to refer you to the explanation above. If you were using the preview button well, you would not have edited FinnishPokéFan92's talk page seven times for essentially two comments. The point is, have some patience, use preview, and try to be sure about what you will save before saving it so you don't have to come back two or three times to adjust it just a little bit.
FYI, this is also very aggressive and unwarranted.
The takeaway for you here is: be civil. Or as the code of conduct puts it, be nice. Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:12, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
