Character profile

Main article: Giratina (Pokémon)

Giratia was originally created as part of the Pokémon of Myth along with Dialga and Palkia as part of creation of the universe. It is a rebellious Pokémon who has been depicted as being violent and aggressive, leading to its banishment to the Distortion World. Giratina held a grudge for its creator, Arceus, pairing up with Volo in the past. This grudge and betrayal is over turned in Pokémon Platinum, combating Cyrus's hold on Palkia and Dialga.

Giratina keeps watch over the Distortion World, keeping the balance of reality.

Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

A Giratina appears in Turnback Cave in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, and their remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, after the player has obtained their National Pokédex. Whether this is the same one that appears in Pokémon Platinum or Pokémon Legends: Arceus is unknown.

Dawn battling Giratina in Pokémon Platinum

In Pokémon Platinum, Giratina is unknown to most of the people in the Sinnoh region. At Spear Pillar, Cyrus attempts to summon both Palkia and Dialga and taking control of them through usage of the Red Chain. He succeeds in their summon, however, before control can be taken, Giratina appears from the Distortion World and takes Cyrus in with it. The player character and Cynthia head into the portal along with the lake guardians, learning that Giratina and the Distortion World are created as a balance to the real-world.

Giratina provides elements unique to it in battle, while in the Distortion World. It drops down from the top right when encountered as opposed to scrolling from left to right, lacks a floor, and provides the description: "The Distortion World's Giratina appeared!"

Moves

Giratina appears in the Distortion World as its Origin Forme after the player has fought against Cyrus. Giratina is optional to be caught, but is required to battle. If the player decides to defeat instead of capture Giratina in the Distortion World, it will respawn in its Altered Forme at Turnback Cave instead after the player has defeated Cynthia and became champion. This can be repeated as many times until the player has successfully caught Giratina. The Griesous Orb will on the ground where Giratina was standing after the Pokémon has been caught or defeated in Turnback Cave.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Background and pre-game

Along with its counterparts, Dialga and Palkia, were all given life by Arceus during the creation of the universe. Giratina, Dialga and Palkia then formed the Pokémon of Myth, worshiped by the Celestica people, each gaining a stone statue created in their honor, alongside Arceus, known to them as the Almighty Sinnoh. Giratina was soon seen as too violent and destructive, and was banished to the Distortion World by Arceus, acting as a counter balance to the real-world. Due to it's banishment, Giratina's statue was destroyed by the Celestica people, and any remaining proof of its existence was covered up.

Main story

At the start of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a space-time rift above Mount Coronet was creating several distortions in space-time, and landing lightning strikes down on Hisui's four Noble Pokémon, the four Pokémon and Dialga and Palkia to get enraged. Along with this, the player character had fallen from the sky, leading to the events in the game. This destruction was later revealed to have been caused by Giratina who had been contacted by Volo, who had wish to meet and over throw Arceus.

After the events at the Temple of Sinnoh, which is now in ruins after the fight with Dialga/Palkia, the player finds Volo, who is in enraged with their presence and demands of them to give their remaining plates to him and initiates a fight. After losing, Volo angrily summons Giratina in its' Altered Forme from the shadows of the ruined temple commanding and the Legendary to strike at the player down. Giratina loses the battle and transforms into its Origin Forme, continuing the fight it had with the player. It loses a second time and flees, in which Volo berates the Pokémon for running away from a human. Giratina heads towards Spring Path in the Cobalt Coastlands. Giratina is a part of Request 91: "On the Trail of Giratina", as a request from Professor Laventon, who notes that a shadow has dropped over the Coastlands. The player takes on the request and catches the Pokémon, who is found in its Origin Forme.

Moves

Giratina is required to be fought in Pokémon Legends: Arceus' post story twice, being unobtainable under the command of Volo. After defeat, Giratina will retreat back to Turnback Cave in the Cobalt Coastlands where the player can catch the Pokémon for their Pokédex. Completing Request 91: "On the Trail of Giratina" and catching Giratina will reward the player with the Griseous Core.
