Poli (Japanese: ニョロ Nyoro) was the first Pokémon that Red has gotten in the Pokémon Special manga.

History

Poli was the first Pokémon Red has ever gotten. Later on in Buzz Off, Electabuzz!, remembering how his little Poliwag evolved to save him when he was drowning, a Poliwrath emerges from the water with Red in its arms, after touching a Water Stone, speculated to be one of the four stones at the bottom of Vermilion Harbor, later used by Red to allow his Eevee to switch between its evolutions. At the Pokémon League, along with Pika it helped Saur defeat Green's Charizard. Its Damp ability combined with Deoxys use of Skill Swap enabled Red to counter Carr's exploding Forretress in the FRLG arc.
