Chansey is a Pokémon owned by almost every Nurse Joy in the Pokémon anime. They are all played by Tomoe Hanba in the Japanese version and by Rachael Lillis in the 4Kids English dub.

The first time a Chansey appeared under Joy's ownership was in Pokémon Emergency! Two of them wheeled Ash's Pikachu into the emergency room after it had used up all its energy to protect Ash from a flock of Spearow. Since then, they have been featured in nearly every Pokémon Center.

Several Chansey have appeared more prominently than others. The one owned by the Nurse Joy in Overjoyed! was not only a good nurse, but a good battler as well. It was able to defeat Ash's Corphish in an informal battle the two had. Another Chansey, in The Joy of Pokémon, traveled on a kayak with its Nurse Joy from island to island to treat injured Pokémon.
