As the Rising Volt Tacklers arrive at Motosoke in the Galar region, Friede offers Liko and Roy some coffee, made sweeter with cream provided by Alcremie. Friede decides to travel by land to Motostoke in case the Explorers happen to spot them, something he failed to mention. However, the train is out of service for the time being. An excited Orla decides to go hunt for ship parts, and Murdock offers to take Liko and Roy into town for some free time. Dot requests that Liko and Roy go to the Battle Café for some Slurpuff Cotton Candy for one of her Nidothing videos, exciting Liko.
The Rising Volt Tacklers have finally arrived in the Galar region, ready to begin their search of Liko's grandmother. Not wanting to risk the Brave Olivine attracting too much attention and luring the Explorers to them, Friede parks the airship outside the city of Motostoke, from which they can take a train to Hammerlocke to begin their search. However, Friede learns after landing that the trains won't be running until the next day due to maintenance. While Orla heads out to buy some ship parts in the meantime, Dot requests Liko and Roy to visit the Battle Café at Motostoke to get her some Slurpuff cotton candy for use in a Nidothing video. Accompanied by Murdock, the two young Trainers enter the city. While Liko helps Murdock with his shopping, Roy asks around in case anyone has seen the Black Rayquaza. Although no one has seen it, he is advised to talk with the local Gym Leader, Kabu, who is from Hoenn and could be able to help with matters regarding the legends of his native region.

In Motostoke, Murdock, Liko and Roy ride lift. From there, Liko and Murdock do some shopping while Roy goes around asking others about the whereabouts of the Black Rayquaza. With no leads, the group decides to go to the Battle Café, where they find a trainer winning some Slurpuff Cotton Candy by defeating Mitchell, the owner. Liko and Roy notice that something is on Murdock's mind before Mitchell comes over. Liko sees that Mitchell refuses the cream offered by Alcremie. Mitchell doesn't have any interest in battling Murdock and walks off, leaving Alcremie feeling dejected. Murdock tells Liko and Roy that he and Mitchell were best friends, but now he wants nothing to do with him.
At the Battle Café, Murdock notices that the Slurpuff cotton candy is not listed in the menu. Watching the café's pastry chef be defeated by a customer, the group learns that the cotton candy is a reward for winning against the chef, who can only be fought once per day. Murdock recognizes the chef as a man named Mitchell, who likewise recognizes him and refuses to battle him. Murdock's Alcremie tries to offer Mitchell some of her cream, but is left heartbroken when he refuses. Murdock explains that he and Mitchell used to be friends, but that was a long time ago. At Liko's urging, he goes into more detail, explaining that the two of them used to run a Pâtisserie together while having a friendly rivalry between Murdock's ruby cream cakes and Mitchell's matcha cakes. That changed, however, when the bakery's mascot Pokémon, Milcery, evolved into a Alcremie Alcremie, which benefitted Murdock's pastries more than Mitchell's. This eventually led to an argument between the two, and Murdock left the bakery with Alcremie. While Murdock understands now that Mitchell would've wanted Milcery to evolve into a Alcremie Alcremie, he's still not sure what to say to him to make up for what happened.

Via Liko's request, Murdock shares that he and Mitchell used to work together as a team, selling cakes with the help of Milcery. Using Milcery's cream, they were able to make abundance of cakes, Mitchell preferring matcha flavor, whilst Murdock prefers strawberry flavor. Though there was a slight rivalry between them, they both took it lightheartedly. Unaware in another room, Milcery grabbed a strawberry from the plate and spun, causing it to evolve into an Alcremie. Although Murdock was extremely happy for Alcremie and for the thought of making Strawberry Ruby Swirl decorated cakes, Mitchell wasn't. The next day, they started as usual selling their cakes. After they were done Murdock's were sold, unfortunately, Mitchell's weren't as popular as his. Mitchell developed a resentment towards Alcremie, as he was not able to use her ruby swirled cream, which led to a falling out between him and Murdock that led to them going their separate ways.
Noticing Mitchell listening in on their conversation and Alcremie still looking sad, Liko gains the confidence to speak up, insisting that she and Murdock battle Mitchell together. While hesitant, Murdock eventually agrees to this, and he and Liko issue a Double Battle challenge to Mitchell. Mitchell agrees to accept the challenge issued by the young lady, but warns them that, unlike with his customers, he won't go easy on them.

Seeing Murdock and Alcremie's troubles, Liko gathers up the confidence to say that she and Murdock should battle Mitchell together. Liko begs Mitchell to have a Double Battle with her and Murdock. Mitchell listens to her plea and accepts, using his Slurpuff and Appletun against Sprigatito and Alcremie. Slurpuff and Appletun start with Cotton Spore and Apple Acid on Sprigatito. Alcremie is able to use Acid Armor to absorb Murdock that led to them going their separate ways.
The battle begins, with Liko's Sprigatito and Murdock's Alcremie facing Mitchell's Slurpuff and Appletun. The battle is off to a less than optimal start, as Sprigatito gets immobilized by Slurpuff's Cotton Spore and hit by Appletun's Apple Acid. Alcremie, though, manages to protect herself from Appletun's attack with Acid Armor, before proceeding to free Sprigatito from the cotton by absorbing it into herself. Beginning their counterattack, Murdock has Alcremie use Decorate on Sprigatito, powering her up and allowing her Scratch to deal notable damage on its opponents. Though they get back on their feet, instead of attacking back, Slurpuff and Appletun instead start pouring out ingredients for Mitchell, much to Liko's confusion. In response, Murdock also starts whisking some of Alcremie's cream, leaving both Liko and Roy baffled at how the battle suddenly transformed into a bake-off. However, seeing the chefs and their Pokémon looking happy is enough to make Liko happy too. At Murdock's request, she has Sprigatito add the finishing touch on their pastries by sprinkling Leafage leaves on them.

Seeing Murdock and Alcremie's troubles, Liko gathers up the confidence to say that she and Murdock should battle Mitchell together. Mitchell listens to Liko's plea and accepts, using Slurpuff and Appletun against Sprigatito and Alcremie. Slurpuff and Appletun start with Cotton Spore and Apple Acid on Sprigatito. Alcremie is able to use Acid Armor to absorb Appletun's follow-up Apple Acid as well as the Cotton Spore enveloping Sprigatito. Alcremie gives Sprigatito another hand by powering it up with Decorate. Liko commands Sprigatito to use Scratch, which hits both of Mitchell's Pokemon hard due to the power boost from Decorate. Declaring he won't loose, Mitchell baffles Liko when he whips out a bowl and fills it with his Pokemon's Apple Acid and Cotton Spore. Liko is further confused when Murdock fills a bowl of his own with Alcremie's cream.
Calming down, even Murdock and Mitchell begin to notice how out-of-nowhere their sudden bake-off came. Liko points out to them how happy Alcremie is, as she had just wanted to make pastries with both of them again, just like they used to. Murdock finally finds himself able to apologize to Mitchell, who silently goes inside and comes back out with a slice of matcha cake, requesting that Alcremie pour some of her cream on it, which she happily does. Mitchell admits that his inability to blend Alcremie's cream with his pastries was simply due to his own inexperience at the time and offers the cake to Murdock as a sign of his own apology. The two men share a tearful hug to celebrate their rekindled friendship, before Mitchell suddenly notices that one of the customers present at the patio is none other than Gym Leader Kabu, much to Roy's excitement.

Though it goes from a battle to a bake-off, Liko smiles when she puts together what's going on. Via Murdock's urging, Liko has Sprigatito use Leafage to provide a strong and sweet scent. Liko goes over to an exhausted Murdock and Mitchell and says that she wanted this for Alcremie, who wanted to make sweets with the two like in the old days. When Murdock apologizes to Mitchell for what happened between them, Mitchell goes to get a matcha cake which he has been keeping as a secret menu item. However, Mitchell claims it's not yet complete, having Alcremie add some of its strawberry cream on top. Mitchell tearfully offers it to Murdock as his own apology. Mitchell offers enough for everyone and tearfully embraces Murdock. Everyone then turns their attention to Kabu.
