A God Pokémon is a popular term among fans used to describe Pokémon with god-like qualities, such as control time, powers of creation, etc. and Pokémon that took part in the creation of the Pokémon World.

Characteristics of God Pokémon

Most fan named, God Pokémon, have unique abilities to control aspects of the Pokémon World. Several of them also were present at the beginning of time. They all have exceptional base stats, are all legendary and have abilities specific to themselves.

Mew

151 Mew, the New Species Pokémon, is charged with being a God Pokémon due to the fact that scientists believe it to be the ancestor of all Pokémon. It has the power to use all known attacks, can turn invisible, teleport and is the only Pokémon that can change into any other species at will. Some believe it to have been the first Pokémon in existence.

Lugia

249 Lugia, the Diving Pokémon, is occasionally put into lists of God Pokémon. It is likely placed in these list due to its power to control and change weather and its good base stats. It also is the sole Pokémon that can stop the legendary birds ceaseless fighting.

Ho-Oh

250 Ho-Oh, the Rainbow Pokémon, is likely put into lists of God Pokémon due to its astounding ability to ressurect the dead. It has good base stats and is likened to Lugia.

Dialga

483 Dialga, the Temporal Pokémon, is considered a God Pokémon by fans due to the fact that it took part in the creation of the Pokémon World and has the neccessary and unique ability to control time.

Palkia

484 Palkia, the Spacial Pokémon, is recognized as a God Pokémon because it took part in the creation of the Pokémon World with Dialga and has the important and unique ability to distort space.

Giratina

487 Giratina, the Renegade Pokémon, is named as a God Pokémon because of the fact that it was birthed from Arceus at the beginning of time along with Dialga and Palkia, likening the three the Dragon Trio. Giratina, due to its violent behaivour, was banished by Arceus to the Distortion World, an area where time and space aren't in effect. This Pokémon balances the Pokémon World with the Distorted one.

Arceus

493 Arceus, the Alpha Pokémon, is considered the creation Pokémon as it birthed Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Dialga, Palkia and Giratina at the beginning of time. This Pokémon is known as a God Pokémon because of its numerous appearances in Sinnoh myths, being known as the Original One. It is the only Pokémon that can change its type depending on its held plate. It also has the highest base stat total of all Pokémon and resides at the end of the National Pokédex.

Other God-Like Pokémon

  • The Weather Trio, Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza are occasional thought to be God Pokémon because of their strength and shaping of the continents and seas. They are told in many tales to have had a cataclysmic battle in the deep past and since then went into a long deep sleep, such as that of Arceus.

Trivia

  • The Japanese title of the fifth Pokémon Movie, Pokémon Heroes, is: 水の都の護神 ラティアスとラティオス (Guardian Gods of the City of Water: Latias and Latios) calling the twin birds Guardian Gods.
