The sprite glitch is a glitch that alters the appearance of the sprite images in the first three generations, making the sprites appear to be distorted or even unrecognisable. To make it occur in Generation I, simply name a Pokémon " " (only tested on starter Pokémon). In addition, Missingno. will distort battle sprites upon its encounter, however this can be fixed by viewing the stats of a normal, non-glitch Pokémon. The glitch returned in Generation II where it occured if using a cheat device to get out of the city in ways like walking through walls. This can sometimes make a clone of the previous city the player visited. It can also occur in Generation III, if using a Walkthrough Walls code and a problem occurs. There are other methods to the glitch, some of which are using a Pokémon Center to heal the player's Pokémon when in a glitched area, visiting Glitch City, or catching certain glitch Pokémon.
