Like the Bittercold in the previous installment, Dark Matter also has special attacks that are unique to it. However, they emphasize less on causing negative status effects and more on dealing damage.
*Mow Down - Dark Matter rears up a wave of darkness like it would an arm, and then throws the aura of darkness on things that surround it, hence mowing down surroundings, however this attack can only hit Pokémon directly in front of it. The damage that is dealt does not have any type, roughly around 45-65 damage for each Pokémon in the attack radius. This attack is utilized in both phases of the fight.
*Shadow Casting - Also known as "taking aim and striking", Dark Matter surrounds its' body with the shadowy aura and lets it go. Just like Mow Down, it can only hit Pokémon facing the front of it.
*Animosity - Dark Matter lets its' animosity lash out. This attack can inflict a Status Ailment or a reduction in status, chosen at random, on its' target. It is essentially like the Winds of Despair.
*Time Force - Dark Matter charges up its' power, and where the boss will strike will have an obvious tell of red squares around the arena. These areas must be avoided in order to prevent typeless damage from the attack. It takes two turns for the attack to finish charging.
*Surround with Injustice - Much like Whirlwind, Dark Matter blows back a target.
*Blow Away Surroundings - As opposed to Surround with Injustice, this attack activates as Dark Matter starts to take on enough damage. Like the aforementioned attack, it also blows away any targets surrounding it.
*Shoot - Deals damage in a line of sight, roughly 30 HP.

Dark Matter

Dark Matter (Japanese: ダークマター Dark Matter) is an entity in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon that has the ability to petrify Pokémon. It also has the ability to control the minds of Pokémon. Dark Matter serves as the final boss of Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon. It's plan is to destroy the Tree of Life and drain the energy of and petrify every Pokémon, causing the world to be sent into the sun. Dark Matter is defeated for good by the player and their partner after the former and Mew had failed to do so in ancient times.

Special Attacks

Like the Bittercold in the previous installment, Dark Matter also has special attacks that are unique to it. However, they emphasize less on causing negative status effects and more on dealing damage.

  • Mow Down - Dark Matter rears up a wave of darkness like it would an arm, and then throws the aura of darkness on things that surround it, hence mowing down surroundings, however this attack can only hit Pokémon directly in front of it. The damage that is dealt does not have any type, roughly around 45-65 damage for each Pokémon in the attack radius. This attack is utilized in both phases of the fight.
  • Shadow Casting - Also known as "taking aim and striking", Dark Matter surrounds its' body with the shadowy aura and lets it go. Just like Mow Down, it can only hit Pokémon facing the front of it.
  • Animosity - Dark Matter lets its' animosity lash out. This attack can inflict a Status Ailment or a reduction in status, chosen at random, on its' target. It is essentially like the Winds of Despair.
  • Time Force - Dark Matter charges up its' power, and where the boss will strike will have an obvious tell of red squares around the arena. These areas must be avoided in order to prevent typeless damage from the attack. It takes two turns for the attack to finish charging.
  • Surround with Injustice - Much like Whirlwind, Dark Matter blows back a target.
  • Blow Away Surroundings - As opposed to Surround with Injustice, this attack activates as Dark Matter starts to take on enough damage. Like the aforementioned attack, it also blows away any targets surrounding it.
  • Shoot - Deals damage in a line of sight, roughly 30 HP.

Trivia

  • It is similar to Dark Rust, the Bittercold and the Void Shadows in that they can be fought, but are not Pokémon.
  • Unlike the Bittercold, but like Dark Rust, Dark Matter speaks on multiple occasions and appears to be sentient.
    • In the English version, Dark Matter speaks with inconsistent and seemingly random capitalization.
  • Dark Matter shares both its English name and its Japanese name with Dark Matter from the Kirby series. In addition, they are both bosses and can control the minds of other characters.
  • Dark Matter appears to be able to change its type mid-battle.
  • Like the Bittercold, Dark Matter is created from the negative emotions of Pokémon. According to Ampharos, it is made up of hate, sadness, and rage.
  • After the partner chooses to accept Dark Matter and destroys its core, it can be seen saying "ThANK yOU" in white text as the screen fades to white.
