*The original Japanese version of the card initially allowed Brock's Ninetales to use the Pokémon Powers of the card that was attached to it via Shapeshift. This was later errata'd in Japan, and the errata was included in foreign releases of the card.  The Shapeshift power was still a rulings nightmare, similar to {{TCG ID|Fossil|Ditto|3}}, despite the errata.

Once during your turn (before your attack), you may attach an Evolution card from your hand to Brock's Ninetales. (This doesn't count as evolving Brock's Ninetales.) Treat Brock's Ninetales as if it were that Pokémon instead. It can't evolve, devolve, or use the Pokémon Power of that Pokémon. During your turn, you may discard the Evolution card attached to Brock's Ninetales. This power can't be used if Brock's Ninetales is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed. If Brock's Ninetales becomes Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed, discard all Evolution cards attached to it.

Trivia

  • The Japanese print of Brock's Ninetales initially allowed it to use the Pokémon Powers of the card that was attached to it via the Shapeshift Pokémon Power. This quirk was widely exploited in Japanese tournaments: combinations of this card and Dark Vileplume were extremely popular, due to the capability to unilaterally block the opponent from playing Trainer cards, by first discarding the Dark Vileplume, playing all the necessary Trainer cards for the turn, and then attaching another Dark Vileplume to it at the end of the turn, before attacking. This card later received an erratum in Japan, which was included in the international releases of the card.

Origin

Will-o'-the-wisp's Japanese name is that of Will-O-Wisp, a move introduced in the Generation III Pokémon games that Ninetales can learn via TM61.
