The Speed Gamers are a group of young people based in Texas that play video games for charity. They ask users to donate money to these charities, with donators being put into a raffle. The winner of the raffle is awarded a prize. While many people donate for the prize, most do it to give to a charitable cause while having fun.

The Pokémon Marathon

On December 19, 2008, at 5:00 PM CST, the Speed Gamers began their first ever Pokémon Marathon. Their goal was to capture every single Pokémon possibly obtainable in America at the time. This meant that they intended to capture 491 Pokémon, excluding Shaymin and Arceus. While they attempted to catch all 491 Pokémon, they only caught 429 Pokémon due to technical issues. As a result, they went over their time limit. The donations resulting from the event were the second highest of any marathon.
