A Trade is a process in which a trainer send his/her Pokémon to another trainer and the trainer that sends his/her Pokémon recieves a Pokémon of that trainer.
A Trainer can trade with any person, him/herself or with trainers in the games. Trading is acutally very simple. All a trainer need is 2 GameBoy (GameBoy Advance for the Generation III]), The Link Cable and the Pokémon that he/her want to trade.
Trading is the most important key to getting all 386 Pokémon. As there are some Pokémon that are not available in each game. So to get a Kyogre from Sapphire a trainer will need to trade for it.
Trading also gives Pokémon a boost. When a Pokémon battles it gains normal Experience but when a traded Pokemon battles it gains boosted Experience which allows a traded Pokémon to level up quickly.
