Release information
This card was released as a promotional card with different artwork by Ken Sugimori. In Japan, it was available through the "Please Trade" Campaign that ran from February to July in 1998. This variant card was never released in English. Later Japanese versions were released as part of the "Pokémon Best Collection" CD. This card was also reprinted in the Base Set 2 and Legendary Collection reprint sets, which were only released outside of Japan.

Trivia
The Venusaur included in the "Pokémon Best Collection" CD has the Pikachu Records logo in place of an Expansion symbol.
Origin
SolarBeam is a move in the Pokémon games that Venusaur can learn. This card's English Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Red and Blue, though it is slightly reworded. The Japanese entry comes from Pokémon Red and Green.
