Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue were the first Pokémon games to be released in the US, on September 30, 1998. The Japanese equivalents were Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, released on February 27, 1996. A sister game with minor gameplay changes was released later, Pokémon Yellow.
