Walkthrough:Pokémon Pokopia/Habitat Basics

Notes on habitats

There are 209 Habitats in Pokopia (not counting the additional Habitats associated with in-game events), and 300 numbered Pokémon in the main Pokopia Pokédex. Certain Pokémon can appear in two or more different habitats, and many habitats can spawn more than one Pokémon. This means you might find yourself building the same habitat many times, though you can also move a Pokémon into a home, so that the habitat is freed up for others to move in. Some Pokemon are also more likely to appear in certain habitats, so it's worth building as many different types as you can if you're hoping to attract a certain species.

However, there is no reward for building all of the habitats, so if you have already befriended the Pokémon that can appear at a habitat, feel free to skip it. Another point of note is that it can take several days for some of the rarer Pokémon to appear, so don't worry if you haven't seen anything yet. They might just be shy.

How to collect rare items

There are also a number of habitats that require some rather rare items. You should be checking the PC every day for items, trading honey for items with Vespiquen, and exchanging the Silver and Rainbow Feathers dropped by Lugia and Ho-oh with Gimmighoul. This, of course, should be done after you have crafted the Clear Bell and Tidal Bell. You can also trade Lost Relics with Gimmighoul.

If you want to befriend everyone, you need to be looking for glowing blocks as often as possible and digging them up. These glowing blocks are the only way you can collect fossils which are necessary for eight different Pokémon. Magnet Rise will make this task a lot easier, though you will still need to return to human form to pick any objects up.

Pokémon with the Trade skill will also trade you rare items for anything they deem to be of similar value. Pokémon Centers are trade points, and Pokémart Kits can be purchased from the Sparkling Skylands PC when you reach environment level 3. These, along with other sets of Cash Registers and tables, can be used to trade if powered by a power source like a Windmill and a Utility Pole.

Unlocking recipes

Recruiting all of the Pokémon is not for the faint of heart, and anyone wishing to attempt it will likely need to play for weeks if not months to do so. This is even if you have managed to befriend all of the Legendary Pokémon outlined in the main walkthrough.

While recipes can show up in the daily shop, or in rippling spots in water, some habitat items are only craftable by purchasing the recipe at the PC in a certain area after reaching a certain environment level. This means that you need to spend a lot of time beautifying each area, building houses, and making sure all of your friends are happy. You'll need to reach environment level 10 in every region and unlock all of the recipes.

Cloud Island play

If you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription then you can speed up your habitat hunt by using Cloud Islands. While you cannot carry your inventory over between Cloud Islands and the main game, any recipes you purchase in the shops or find in rippling pools will carry over between the two. If you are struggling to unlock the recipes you need, then it's a good idea to set up a Cloud Island, so that you have more opportunities to find the recipes you need.

If you are missing a rare but vital piece for a certain habitat, you can also visit a Cloud Island that has the piece of furniture you need, and take a picture of it. Once back in the main game, you can then use the item printers found inside the Pokémon Centers to create a copy. Just remember that when you open the camera, you need to press Y to be in item mode before you take the picture. You'll know you're in the right mode as a square outline will frame the object and the item name will appear above it.

Reward for filling your Pokédex

Once you have filled your Pokédex you will unlock the recipe for the Neo-Dowsing Machine, which requires a Dowsing Machine and five Pokémetal in order to craft. This will allow you to find rarer items when working with a Pokémon with the Search skill. There is also a secret gate in the basement of an abandoned building on the island to the west of Sparkling Skylands near where we met Gyarados that will only open when your Pokédex has been completed.

This will lead to the Game Freak offices. You can use the printer here to print a Diploma, which you can use as decoration. In this room you will also find a recipe for a Card Reader, a Shutter, and a Printer.
