Romanizations

No, they're actually not taken to be the romanized forms of the actual katakana. Otherwise we'd have Pikachūu for ピカチュウ or Mayurudo for マユルド. These aren't the official Japanese names, though; stuff like "Pikachu" and "Mayuld" appear on internal GameFreak stuff as well as on Japanese packaging that uses rōmaji.

We use the "regular" romanizations until we've gotten into the copyright databases to find the actual names they applied for. Serebii and others, most blatantly Serebii, though, use the transcription method instead of the copyright method. To each their own, I suppose. TTEchidna 06:20, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
