Help both appreciated and wanted. Right now it's just barebones layout, with some pictures, because those were easy. Basing it on the layout of the Pokégear and PokéNav pages. Every section is likely going to have to be rewritten so I left those blank for now. If anyone wants to try tackling those, feel free. Let me know what you guys think. Ok, I did some groundwork for the game canon. I don't have GSC on me at the moment so I have refrained from mentioning which game is the first to let you see where fishing Pokémon are.

Things needed: An intro. Overviews of subsections, unless mine are sufficient. Someone familiar with the last three sections to write those, and/or someone has to go through the current version and sort out which info goes with what. Again, the former is probably easier, but if no one wants to try, I guess I'll have to use the second method... Speaking of which, there has to be a better picture of the current anime Pokédex somewhere, right? If not I guess I'll just grab one... Dragoness 15:48, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

A Pokédex (Japanese: ポケモン図鑑 illustrated Pokémon encyclopedia) is an invaluable tool to a Trainer in the Pokémon world. It gives information about all Pokémon in the world that are contained in its database, although it differs in how it presents information over the different medias. However, they are also only given to a few trainers at a time, generally to the ones that are felt to have exceptional potential and skill.

Pokédex entries are typically only two- or three-sentence bits of information about the Pokémon referred to. In some events it gives background information on the habitat or activities of this Pokémon in the wild; at other times it gives other bits of information on the Pokémon's history or anatomy. We might want to add something about being created by Oak, but I can't think of how to do that without being awkward/hearkening straight back to anime stuff Salix 00:41, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
