Chef's diary

March 13

Charlotte appears to be interested in cooking! I tried teaching her a bit, and she's really quite good at it. She's very dexterous with those little Greedent hands, and it took almost no time before she was able to help me out with simple tasks.

June 27

Charlotte's an eager eater, but the one food she doesn't like is Chesto Berries. She made a rather strained expression when I fed her some.

A chef shouldn't be picky about things like that, but I'd feel bad forcing her to eat something she doesn't like. What to do...

July 3

I made a special soup just for Charlotte using Chesto Berries as a secret ingredient. She seemed to really like it, and she appeared very satisfied as she finished off the whole pot! I wonder how shocked she'd be if she knew it had Chesto Berries. I look forward to the day when she figures it out.

Hacker's confessions #1

I doubt anyone will ever read this, but the memories of my experiences are too much to bear alone, so I've decided to confide in this diary.

I'm a nameless hacker. I infiltrate the networks of huge corporations, steal their secrets, and sell them to their rivals.

I already have more than enough money, but it's fun peering behind the scenes, so it's almost like a hobby for me.

I donate al! the money I don't use to things like Pokémon conservation groups.

Ever since I was a kid, I've liked computers and Pokémon more than people.

Hacker's confessions #2

It happened when I was hacking into a server in another region for fun and stumbled on a system with excessively high security.

Finding these sorts of things is always a thrill. It took a lot of effort, but once I breached it, all I could find was what seemed like trivial data about weather patterns.

It was anticlimactic, but it made me think...

Why would someone put so much effort into hiding something like this? That nagged at me.

So I dove back in. It took a lot of work, but I learned how to make sense of the weather data. I was able to gather that a natural disaster had struck that region—dozens of huge, repeated hurricanes.

That's the only conclusion I could draw, but I'd never heard news about a disaster like that.

Hacker's confessions #3

If a disaster of that scale had really happened, surely it would have received both local and global attention.

With that thought, I remembered a foundation active in that region.

They were known for their passion for Pokémon conservation efforts. I had even donated to them. I thought that an organization of that scale might be able to influence media so that no news of the disaster leaked outside the region.

I spent countless days infiltrating the foundation's servers, looking into any data I could lay my hands on. And sure enough, it gradually became clear that they were involved.

I finally fell asleep after repeated all-nighters. When I woke up, I was surrounded by members of the foundation.

Hacker's confessions #4

Apparently I'd left traces when I hacked the servers. That was enough for them to track me down.

The people from the foundation were surprisingly polite, and they explained what was happening in detail.

I have no intention of writing it all here.

The important thing is that someday this disaster will spread throughout the entire world.

They said that humanity in its current state can't prevent it.

The foundation, together with other regions, had formed a plan to evacuate all of humanity into space. The plan was already in motion. My head was spinning at the outrageous tale.

So what would become of Pokémon? When I put the question to them, they described their "Pokémon Conservation Project" and asked for my help.

Hacker's confessions #5

While humanity is evacuated into space, all of the Pokémon in the world are to be stored and protected in a massive computer system. That is the Pokémon Conservation Project.

An incredible plan. But the foundation members said that in order to avoid panic they had to keep both the disaster and the project out of the public eye as much as possible.

Naturally this left them shorthanded.

Skilled computer technicians were in particularly high demand.

That's why the foundation sought me out after I discovered the disaster—recruitment.

I took them up on their offer.

Until this point, I had always lived as I pleased. But if I could save Pokémon using my skills, I had to do it.

The work was tough but also rewarding.

Eventually, the public began to take notice of the disaster. The foundation gradually evacuated those who noticed to a "safe place," but to avoid panic, they waited until the last minute to tell people that their destination was space.

In the middle of this unbelievable situation, I found a flaw in the plan.

Hacker's confessions #6

In order to escape the disaster, humanity would temporarily take refuge in space while Pokémon would be safely stored in a computer system. This was the general overview of the plan.

But no computer system will keep running forever.

The foundation planned to send a select few members back to the planet at regular intervals to perform ongoing maintenance.

But for humanity to survive in space for any length of time, it would take a tremendous amount of energy. I calculated that even a slight deviation from the original plan would result in insufficient energy to return, leaving humankind stranded in space for dozens, or even hundreds, of years.

If that happened, the essential system protecting the Pokémon would eventually cease to function.

So I decided to add a little touch of my own to the system's programming.

First, it will continuously check the weather data across the globe in search of environments that can prove even slightly habitable to Pokémon

Next, if maintenance is not performed for a long period of time and the system begins to approach its limits, it will release the Pokémon most suited to those environments.

Of course, ideally humans will return someday and live alongside Pokémon once more.

But on the off chance humanity never returns from space...I think releasing the Pokémon into a wild world rather than leaving them asleep in a computer would be a happier outcome.

It may sound strange coming from the program's creator, but I hope it never has to run.

Professor's diary #1

My field survey on Cinnabar proved quite fruitful.

I spoke with Pokémon Professors from other regions and gained a number of insights for my own research.

Many folks were very concerned about possible effects the recent weather disturbances may be having on Pokémon.

On my way home, I found a young Tangela.

He appeared injured and weak, so I used a Potion to heal him. He seemed to take a liking to me and toddled along behind me.

I wasn't sure what to do at first. I ended up bringing him home with me, figuring he might be a good playmate for my grandchild.

Professor's diary #2

My grandchild plays with Tangela a lot these days. They both seem to be having so much fun. Just watching them warms my heart.

Tangela shows interest in any and all human activities. When I'm working on the computer, he stares intently at my screen with a curious expression.

Trainers who come to visit me also play with Tangela, and...

Tangela seems intrigued by the items they use. He looks enthralled by things like Pokédexes and Poké Balls.

Are all Tangela brimming with curiosity?
Or is this little one just special?

Pokémon really are fascinating. There's always more to learn about them!

Professor's diary #3

Today there was a gathering attended by Pokémon Professors from every region. We had a surprising announcement in store.

Increasingly intense weather abnormalities—and the calamities striking each region as a result—show no sign of slowing down.

At this rate, predictions suggest that we will no longer be able to obtain enough food and energy to continue living on this planet.

And we learned that a plan was secretly in motion to evacuate all of humanity into space.

It also seemed that, with a few exceptions, it will not be possible to bring Pokémon with us.

Of course some immediately raised their voices in protest, which is when we heard about the Pokémon Conservation Project.

Professor's diary #4

It was decided that we will take part in the Pokémon Conservation Project.

It's a plan to safely store all Pokémon on the planet in a massive computer system while humanity takes refuge in space.

I can't be sure that such a thing is even possible, and being parted from our Pokémon will be terribly painful, but... this may be the only way that people and Pokémon will be able to live together again someday.

I was also asked to join a survey team after we move to space, but I held off on responding.

After humanity relocates, a small group will be sent back to the planet to survey the environment and do maintenance on the conservation system. But given my age, I don't know if I'll still be spry enough to be of much help. I think it's a task best left to the young.

Professor's diary #5

Something shocking has happened.

The Pokémon Conservation Project is progressing smoothly, and the time came for my Tangela to join the others.

In the hopes of avoiding a tearful scene, I waited until my grandchild was asleep before entrusting Tangela to one of the other project members. But later that night, I received word that Tangela had run off.

Tangela was like family. He should have been accustomed to humans. How could this have happened?

I have a theory.
Tangela was likely trying to get back to our home.

But it's nearly time for my family to set off for space. Even if Tangela were to make it safely home... by the time he arrives, we'll no longer be there.

I feel agonizingly helpless knowing there's nothing I can do.

Nothing, that is, but hope that the project staff find Tangela and keep him safe...

Professor's diary #6

The day of departure finally arrived, and Tangela was still nowhere to be found.

So I decided to join the survey team after all.

It will give me the opportunity to return to the planet periodically, and I can search when I'm there.

If there are any strange machines or rare tools on the ship, I should borrow them.

Then I'll find Tangela and show them to him.

I'm certain he'll examine them with his usual curiosity.

Until then...please, be safe.

Poké Life Dev Diary #1

The damage caused by recent meteorological anomalies is immense and dreadful.

The news is continuously reporting on all manner of disasters affecting regions all over the world. There's even speculation that global food and energy resources may become insufficient if this continues.

At university, I researched methods for creating comfortable environments for Pokémon and humans. There must be something I can do in this crisis...

I have decided to do whatever I can—no matter how small. Therefore, I have begun creating homes for Pokémon who lost theirs due to natural disasters.

I don't know how much this is helping the world at large, but the Pokémon, at least, seem to be grateful for the work I'm doing.

I hope to continue my efforts until the meteorological anomalies calm down.

Poké Life Dev Diary #2

Like-minded individuals have been slowly joining my cause as I continue to create homes for Pokémon.

I greatly appreciate the support those individuals provide, but we have all begun to grow tired as the meteorological anomalies and resulting natural disasters continue to worsen.

We need more time, and we need more help.

I have recently begun hearing rumors that there are plans to temporarily evacuate all of humanity into space.

If these rumors are true, does that mean that all of our efforts have been in vain?

My collaborators seem anxious as well. Perhaps they are of the same mind as I...

Poké Life Dev Diary #3

I had a truly surprising experience today.

Someone from an influential foundation in another region visited us and offered to back our efforts here.

This foundation is dedicated to Pokémon care and conservation, and they have promised to provide us with everything we need. I cannot think of a more perfect collaborator to join our cause.

With their support, I may finally be able to... realize the dream I've had for ages.

My dream: to foster a society in which the majority of people—not only my team—are interested and invested in creating comfortable environments for Pokémon and humans to live in.

That goal always seemed far too lofty and out of teach, but I believe it has now entered the realm of possibility with the strong support the foundation has promised us.

Poké Life Dev Diary #4

We have developed an app that will allow all members of our society to participate in creating a comfortable environment for Pokémon and humans.

The budget and staff required to accomplish this feat were provided by the foundation, and the app can be accessed by anyone via Pokémon Center PC.

Participants can start with easy tasks, such as watering dry ground or planting the seeds of various plants—anything that will please nearby Pokémon. The app will reward the participant with virtual "coins," which can in turn be exchanged for a variety of prizes.

This was my first time developing an app, and it was quite the challenge. However, with the help of many talented collaborators, we finally succeeded.

The name of the app is Poké Life.

Poké Life Dev Diary #5

In a most unfortunate turn of events, Poké Life never received a chance to be put to use.

The drastic deterioration of the global environment continues, and the plan to evacuate all of humanity into space has finally been put into action.

Efforts have begun to gather as many Pokémon as possible from all over the world and send them into the Pokémon Center system for safekeeping.

I was unable to make my dream a reality, but there is at least one silver lining in all of this.

Even after we humans leave this planet, the Pokémon Center system will remain active in order to keep all of the Pokémon inside safe.

The system will also keep a record of environmental data around each Pokémon Center. The framework we developed for Poké Life will be used for this.

The recorded data will be analyzed by research teams set to return from space at regular intervals.

They say this is how we will determine when it's safe for all of humanity to return to the planet together.

My time here is short. I must soon go to space myself.

My new dream will be of the day when humans and Pokémon can once again live together on this planet.

Team R Grunt's journal #1

I've decided to give this social media thing a whirl. Today's my first go at it!

Why? To bring in new recruits for our organization!

We may not be the heroes of the story as far as most people out there are concerned. To be completely honest, we're kinda the villains!

But if you forget about all the rules and common sense and stuff, we live how we wanna live... and I think that makes us a pretty fun organization!

Since we don't have the best reputation, I can't really give out our name...

But it's kinda hard to talk about it without a name, so uh...let's go with Team R! Got it?

So anyway, give me a yell if you're interested in being a member of Team R!

Team R Grunt's journal #2

Team R is building a top-secret warehouse!

I went to help out a bit today and got covered in sand. It kinda sucked!

A bunch of smart-looking people were there too, like scientists and engineers and all that. It kinda freaked me out.

But it's pretty cool that our boss has so many different people on call like that!

Team R was actually really infamous in Kanto back in the day, but our boss at the time disbanded the whole organization. Our new boss restarted things, and now we're back!

I really respect our current boss! We're all baddies and villains, but he totally gets us!

I'm gonna be his loyal underling forever!

Team R Grunt's journal #3

One good thing and one bad thing happened to me today.

The good thing was that I got assigned to a special mission by the boss!

Our boss really knows how to pick people for special missions. If I can do well on this, I'll climb the ranks to exec in no time! Maybe!

The bad thing is that the mission itself... seems really hard and kinda annoying!

He wants me to gather all kinds of things. In a time like this?! Food, furniture, uhhh...what else? Anyway, just LOTS of stuff.

I'm just a little grunt and don't have any underlings of my own, so it's a big ask!

I'm just trying to figure out the absolute easiest, low-energy way to complete this mission!

Team R Grunt's journal #4

Let me tell you all about what happened while I was looking for Leppa Berries to try and complete this mission for the boss.

There's been a bunch of extreme weather or whatever recently that's killing off all the trees, but I FINALLY found a tree that still had berries on it!

But as soon as I started shaking the tree to get the berries off, some super serious-looking lady came up and started yelling at me!

She was like, "Those are NOT for you! They're for Pokémon! There are already FAR too few berries!"

Blah blah blah. She was so annoying! But something else she said was actually kinda interesting...

Apparently she's making an app or something to get a bunch of people to work together and create a comfortable environment for Pokémon to live in.

Basically, if you do good stuff for the environment... the app will reward you with cool prizes!

In other words, she's gonna bribe people to work for her by promising ‘em cool stuff. Not a bad idea!

And that gave ME a GREAT idea!

I bet I could complete that mission the boss gave me by doing kind of the same thing!

Team R Grunt's journal #5

So I went ahead and got some prizes ready.

I went with Gym Badges! People are crazy about those things, y'know? These are fake ones, though!

Now I just gotta get some nice little Pokémon Trainers to come work for free!

But that's got me kinda stumped. All the Trainers I try to talk to in town just look at me like I'm suspicious and ignore everything I say.

I dunno if my handiwork was no good or if I just have a face that only a mother could trust, but I gotta say that this whole thing's got me feeling kinda down.

I even had to report to the boss and tell him that the mission wasn't going well. I just didn't have a choice.

But the boss didn't get mad! He just gave me a pep talk and even let me in on some ultra-top-secret intel about our warehouse!

Team R Grunt's journal #6

The Secret of Team R's Warehouse!!!

Of course I can't spill all the beans...but I can spill some of ‘em!

You've probably heard the rumors about having all the humans evacuate into outer space. Well! Our boss tells me that the rumors are true!

But apparently they don't want Team R doing bad stuff in outer space, so they're gonna split us up... and send us all to different areas! Not cool, people. I can't be the only one who thinks that's not cool!

But our boss has us covered.

Turns out that warehouse is ACTUALLY Team R's secret weapon for getting us into outer space together! I cried happy tears! Our boss rules!

How are we gonna get to outer space on our own,

you ask? Well...I can't tell ya that! Haha!

Team R Grunt's journal #7

Hearing about the boss's dream of keeping Team R together even in outer space really got me motivated. I'm gonna give my mission one more serious go!

I did a little work on the rocke—uh, the warehouse—to trick people walking by into wanting to help out with my mission.

It was a LOT of work, but I just had to keep in mind that I was working hard in the moment so I could take it easy later! Not a bad way to do things, I think!

The engineers all looked kinda annoyed with me, but they did lend me a hand.

Now all I gotta do is wait for some goody-goody to come along and do my mission for me!

I'm gonna go ahead and report to the boss what I've accomplished. I bet he'll be so proud!

Notes

Grunt's journal (brainstorming)

Assuming someone actually DOES complete my mission for me by getting food and furniture and all that stockpiled up...

What should I do if they actually want to join our organization?

I dunno if any super serious do-gooders would want to join Team R, but if they DO ask to join I guess we could let ‘em. Might not be so bad.

I bet everybody'd be real surprised if they found out Team R built a rocket to evacuate into outer space all by ourselves.

We even have more than enough fuel to make it back to the planet easily after the environment's calmed down a bit. The boss's plan is absolutely perfect!

The boss says that the scale of the plan to get all humans into outer space at once is just too large.

He said that if anything goes seriously wrong, the others might not have enough fuel to get back!

Maybe we could share some of our extra fuel with them if that happens. Then maybe people'd think "Oh, Team R is actually so nice", and we'd get more people wanting to join up.

Either way, I bet we can make a bunch of money from it all when the time comes!

Observation notes

The unknown ore discovered in my hometown's bedrock possesses the positive qualities of multiple existing ores. Perhaps it's not a single type of ore, but rather a mix of more than one?

It would be a challenge to perform sufficient experimentation with just the sample I managed to bring here, but I sense some great potential...

Someone's journal #1

I just got back from depositing my partner Pokémon in the PC at the Pokémon Center.

We spent every day together. Being separated like this is so hard. But I know we'll meet again someday. I'm sure of it.

I'll need to evacuate with the others pretty soon, but first I'm planning to go take one last look at all the cities my partner and I visited together.

It's hard to explain why, but I feel the need to do this.

Someone's journal #2

I remember this being a bright, bustling port city way back when I visited with my partner.

Now there are always dark clouds looming over the city. Not a single sunbeam slips through. Looks like most of the people who lived here have gone, too.

The last time we were here, whenever we went near the water, [player name] got so nervous...

Maybe because it can't swim?

I tried getting it to transform into a Water type, but despite its best efforts, we had little success. I guess it's not so easy.

After giving it a lot of encouragement, I was shocked when it suddenly transformed into ME!

It copied every detail of my clothes, my haircut...Only its face still looked like Ditto. Unfortunately, transforming into me didn't really help with the whole "not being able to swim" issue...

Someone's journal #3

A long time ago, this city was packed with people working in the nearby mines. Apparently, it was a pretty lively place.

At least, that's what I heard from the chef at the little restaurant I visited with [player name].

There's no sign of that restaurant anymore. But I guess it's not surprising, given those vicious volcanic eruptions. Who could live in a place like this now?

The food we had at that restaurant was incredibly delicious. The whole time the chef was cooking, [player name] was watching intently.

It's always been so full of curiosity. I've noticed it seems particularly interested in the things humans do.

I wish we could have traveled together more. There are so many things I wanted to show it.

Someone's journal #4

This city was a dazzling metropolis the last time I came here with [player name].

Now it's barely recognizable.

Apparently, the ground in this area has been rising up so quickly that it's caused many of the buildings to collapse and the roads to crack.

Some scientists believe that if things continue at this pace, in a matter of centuries this area will be...

...as high as a mountain, in terms of elevation. It looks like most of the people who once lived here have evacuated already.

I suppose I should go, too. It breaks my heart to leave [player name] behind, but it's not forever.

No matter what, I'll come back someday. And then [player name] and I will travel the world!

Letters

Dear Douglas

The price of vegetables has really gone up here in Viridian City since there's been so little rain this year. Are things OK where you are, Douglas? I hope all that electricity in your city is making life a little easier over there.

Anyway, if you ever need help, just let me know and I'll send you some vegetables.

Love,
Mom

Dear Elena

Look at my little Minnie and Cici! This is the best shot I've ever taken of them!

I've been thinking about them lately, day and night. What do you suppose they're up to? I just keep staring at this photo.

You told me about your partner before, right, Elena? Wasn't it named Mora or something? I bet it was cute, just like its Trainer. Wish I could've seen it.

Heya, Kaz!

This is Mora! Adorable, right? I'm not sure this photo does her justice, though. Just look at how gorgeous she is, and those eyes suck you right in... She's so cute! Don't you think so too, Kaz?

I also look at this photo when I'm lonely. I hope this picture of Mora cheers you up, Kaz, even if it's only a little bit!

Hi, Dad!

After I finish my homework today, I'm going to Yuri's place.

She's gonna show me a Pawmi video, so I might be kinda late getting home!

Love, Nathalie

I need your advice...

My daughter's been sobbing every night recently. She keeps saying that she wants to see Marie, and she just cries and cries. I tried giving her a plush toy that looked just like Marie, but she got angry and yelled that it wasn't the same.

How are things with your family? I hope you're not going through the same thing, but if you happen to have any ideas about what to do, please let me know.

Love, Minami

I wanna go swimming!

You know how much I love swimming—it's basically my whole personality. So not being able to swim? It's the worst! I NEED to get back out in the water. I'm sure you feel the same way, Maggie.

Ugh, I'm so tired of living like this... How long until we can go swimming again, do you think?

Love, Rory

Post from July 30, 6:00 p.m.

White sand and the blue ocean... Endless rays of sun and the cool shade of a palm tree... Just relaxing on my own at the beach is my favorite thing to do lately! But I do kinda feel like I'm being watched...
Nah, it's probably just my imagination!

Anyway, I can't recommend this place enough. You should all check it out sometime! Catch my next post for more details!

R&D Deep Dive (February Issue)

Today we'll be showing you an office where we're smack in the middle of developing new products!

Here, we're in the thick of designing new plush toys. There are plenty of Pokémon in this room! We want to truly re-create the charm and cuteness of Pokémon, so we spend every day in here observing the real deal! We definitely don't come here just to admire and adore the Pokémon—this is research!

To Harry

Look at this cute photo of Rio! I took it when Growly (who just moved in next door) came over to play.

Doesn't she look happy?! Lately, she's been spending every free minute playing with Growly. At this rate, she'll probably forget all about you!

Just kidding! But if you're worried about that, maybe you should finally visit next summer break!

To my fishing fanatic big bro

How are you doing?
I've been having a fun day fishing—as always!

By the way, have Pokémon started changing where they live? Recently I've fished up Pokémon that I used to only see in different regions. Maybe you'll catch something rare where you are, too!

Love,
Your Fishing Fanatic Little Bro

To my fishing fanatic little bro

Thanks for the letter!

These days, I've been fishing up a huge haul of Horsea. There are just so many to catch—I'm having an absolute blast!

I'll visit you sometime soon, so let's go fishing together then.

Love,
Your Fishing Fanatic Big Bro

Daily Porygon2 notes

Companies involved in the space exploration industry are at each other's throat these days. I'm feeling the pain of it myself, as I've been put in charge of caring for some Porygon2 meant for planetary exploration. It's a lot of work!

Today, one of those three Porygon2 seems unwell. I ordered a patch that sounded effective and applied it, so I hope it will feel better tomorrow.

New Plan Proposal (name TBD)

Our organization is implementing a new plan in the hope of overcoming our past mistakes. See below for details.

This plan will require the cooperation of our entire organization, not just select departments, so we ask that all members read on and make this their top priority.

Project Cancellation Proposal

The project originally set to launch next month is moving ahead with preparations, despite its low chance of success.

We took it upon ourselves to collect data and perform our own calculations. A report on the dangers that came to light from said calculations is included herein.

With this in mind, we ask that you please seriously consider canceling the project.

Shellos report

Shellos changes its color and appearance based on its diet and the environment it lives in.

We are researching day and night in an attempt to create a heretofore unknown yellow Shellos.
