JustInBasil is a fansite focused on the Pokémon Trading Card Game that was run by Jason Kingsford, who was originally a Reddit user who created a deck building guide which would eventually morph into the website. In addition to the deckbuilding guide, the site was also known for its coverage of prerelease events and alternate formats. In addition to running the website, Kingsford was also a Pokémon League Organizer and Judge, as well as a frequent contributor to PokéBeach. Tragically, Kingsford would die unexpectedly on July 25, 2025 at the age of 36.[1] As of December 2025, the website is still up but has not been updated since Kingsford's death.

Content

What to Play

Here, Kingsford would cover the most used decks in the current metagame, giving decklists, brief descriptions of the decks' strategies, and links to other people using said decks. He also covered some "budget decks" that were considered to be less viable but were cheaper ways to get into competitive play. Additionally, he covered a number of alternate formats, most notably his own created "Eternal" format, which allowed cards from all eras of the TCG with a banlist to keep things manageable.

What's Next

This is where upcoming and recent TCG releases would be covered. This section contained set lists and translations of upcoming cards as well as providing proxy cards to test upcoming sets.

Rotation

In this section, Kingsford would cover the upcoming rotation, including some of the notable cards that would be rotated, which cards become more important as a result of rotation, and which decks will get better after rotation.

Deck Building

This section included Kingsford's detailed guide to building decks in the current meta, which detailed the process of deckbuilding, the many roles that cards can play in the deck, and a lot of background information necessary to understand the game. In addition, there was a list of staple cards that were used in a wide variety of decks. Finally, there was a guide to prerelease deckbuilding that also covered the prebuilt decks of the most recent event.

Other tools

This contained a guide to identifying counterfeit cards, proxy decks intended to be used alongside Battle Academy products, and various links to other resources for the Pokémon TCG.
