I'm not sure what the phrase "the player cannot influence some or any factors of the battle" is intended to mean. What constitutes a "factor of the battle"? Are link battles or facility battles considered scripted because the player cannot use items? Do battles in the Battle Palace count as scripted because the player cannot issue commands? Are Battle Sims scripted because the player cannot choose their own Pokémon?

Does "it is pre-determined by the game what happens" refer only to the battle's resolution, or are other restrictions applicable? For the example of the ghost Marowak, there are two possible ways to resolve the battle: either the Marowak is defeated or the player blacks out. However, the player may employ any strategy to accomplish either resolution. Since there are other examples of battles that cannot be resolved through capture, I'm not sure what makes this instance unique.

The section on spin-off games mentions a battle in which the story progresses regardless of whether the player wins or loses. Should the definition of a scripted battle include instances in which the player may influence the battle's resolution but the story progresses regardless even if the resolution would have a material impact, such as if the player loses to a rival and progresses the story without earning prize money? Would this include a tutorial battle against a wild Pokémon, in which the player's Pokémon cannot be defeated, but may not earn experience? Are battles such as Wally's capture of Ralts or Eagun's battle against Skrub considered scripted, even if alternate resolutions may occur? --Apopheniac (talk) 01:36, 1 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
