To (type of battle) or not to (type of battle)
Hmm, yeah so I've got a plenty strong case for this being very much a "game" and not a "type of battle".
- 1) All extant sources (announcement post, website, and pdf), treat Raid Battle as a "game"
- 2) The Pokemon Parents page treats this as a comparable to Poke Catch, something which is not a type of battle by any means. (The Alternative Play Handbook also quanifies Poke Catch as a "game")
- 3) Poke Catch and Raid Battle have equal levels of billing on the main website, linked from a "Other ways to play" dropdown.
- 4) One cannot wedge Achievements from the Alternative Play Handbook into Raid Battle, at least not without making up a pile of new ones, somehow accounting for how there are no Prize cards, and changing the cooperative ruleset.
Treating it as a double battle comparable doesn't quite work either, not least because Raid Battle isn't in the Play Pokemon Rules when Double Battle was, and also because Raid Battle doesn't have an entry in the closest equivalent: The Alternative Play Handbook.
