Possibly based on ginseng?

I am wondering if the Pep-Up Plant is based on ginseng. Ginseng is noted for its purported medicinal properties, especially in East Asia, and the Pep-Up Plant has some similarities in appearance to the ginseng plant. For one, the bunch of white flowers on top is similar to ginseng. The leaves are a fair distance below the flowers for both, and while they are much fewer in number on the Pep-Up Plant, this could be a stylistic choice to make the art more clear and less busy. And the wide taproot is quite similar to ginseng root, though it does lack the many thinner roots running off of it - again, it could be a stylistic choice for clarity. However, I have no conclusive evidence supporting this theory. Does anyone else have any ideas as to what this plant could be based on, or any evidence of it being based on a particular plant(s)?
